    Going from the UK

Just trying to find some prices for a week in Chicago with return flights from London. Currently the best I have found is £847 per person. What are the others from the UK finding in terms of prices?

If only this was being held in August, I'm going over to the USA for a month then anyway!

    Thanks,
    Steve

Might have to re-think going if those are the best prices your getting.

I've been looking on expedia and £847 was best price for flights plus hotel. Via ba.com just for flights it's £500. Will keep looking, but I'm still expecting it to be fairly expensive, unless maybe there are enough people here who want to go we could do a group thing? Of course I think you need something like 16 people before that's worth doing.

What was the flight company providing the £200 return flights? I can't seem to get anywhere near that figure.

Yes, it does work out at rather a lot! £900 ($1600) for a short trip is pushing it a bit. If I could of combined it with a longer stay then I would of gone for it, unfortunately I already have plans for a month long stay in the USA for August so can't really do this as well.

    slice16:

You'll probably want to stay at the conference hotel anyway. We have a group rate of $131 a night. Hotel reservations are available at:

    http://www.hostingcon.com/attend/housing.php

We'll be starting conference registrations in the next couple of weeks. We'll notify our pre-registered people first, then make registrations available to the general hosting industry a few days later.

I would love to go (and stay at the Hyatt), but I wouldn't have money until February.

Is there a way I can do an IOU?

No. But you can check in February and see if there are registrations still available and if there are rooms still available. You never know, there may be a few. I wouldn't count on it, but maybe!

http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/ is by far the best for cheap deals, I have seen so many things, but you need to be prepared to fly from Manchester?!? Some flights extreamly stupid prices, like 200 quid. Also have you looked on teletext? Go on ITV, then its 222.

    Thankies

What is the hostingcon exactly? Is it like a big hosting conference, that will be something like those car shows, except instead of cars there will be servers?

Why should "they"? The organizers are based in Chicago and they've worked hard to prepare such event, they have local knowledge of the area, it is much harder to organize an event somewhere you've never been. As has been suggested before, by all means organize a UK event, you'll need to broker hotel rates, select a suitable central location, draw up a contract with a hotel and conference hall etc...

    Note: I'm UK too.

I'll be going and as we're a platinum sponser we'll be taking about 5 members of staff. Hopefully I'll be able to find some cheaper tickets!

We're not opposed to considering an event in the UK in the future. I've been to London four times in the last two years and I absolutely loved it. Believe me, I'm not opposed to the UK.

As MattF said, however, we are based in Chicago and because this is a first-year event, we felt it would be better to plan something nearby to reduce one item from the very long list of stressful things about planning an event like this.

We had originally looked at Las Vegas because of its reputation as a good place for conferences, but concluded that managing it remotely while feeling our way through planning a first time event would just be too difficult. Planning one across the pond would be that much harder!

I won't promise we'll do one in the UK, but after we get one conference under our belt, we'll review and see where we stand. We'll be exploring many different options going forward I'm sure.

    Hello George,

Thank you for your consideration into one within the United Kingdom. May I please ask though, that you DO NOT have it in London, hardly anyone lives in London, it's an expensive place to live. Why not have it somewhere like Manchester?

    Thanks

We haven't even decided to have one yet! We'll of course do the appropriate research before we would consider doing one in the UK and would try to place it where it would meet the needs of the attendees.
