looking to buy my first server

moving from a reseller account with experince in linux at home (mandrake, gentoo, debian) on serveral desktops.

I want a server to learn more about server use of Linux, but was wondering on a few things.

How can i double check the bandwitdh carrier of these providers, I dont cogent or yipes unless its used for backup.

Any good online manuals or experinces for newbie linux server users besides rackshack.net forums?

Is their a major differnece between unmanged and managed, or is this just a marketing tactic...

Thanks for advice

Most reputable hosting companies list their providers on the website. If they don't, I'm skeptical. A good host will have at least 3, but hopefully many more.

Managed vs. unmanaged = a big price difference. If you have the knowledge to run your own server (and most people who get a dedicated server do) then I'd go with unmanaged. If you need someone to patch, update and make small settings changes here and there for you, then I guess managed is your thing. Not entirely sure since I've never gotten managed.
