Question

Best ways to verify a host

Hi all,

Just thought it'd be interesting to start a thread about webhost verification.

When I say "webhost verification," I am speaking about making sure a webhost is reputable, honest, etc.

It just seems that for every "good" hosting company, there are 10 more who are trying to make a buck or two in an industry they don't know anything about. (Gotta love those Turnkey sites)

What impact on potential buyers do these certifications have?

Some Services I know of:

>BBB (Better Business Bureau)
>HostCheck.net
>PayPal Verified Merchant (Sort of...)
>"Support Certified"
> Trust-E

Thoughts? Additions?

Just be careful. Some sites say they are verified when they are either..

a)Just a copied image.
b) they paid for the little logo.

Cheers

In the past that would be seen as an exageration, On these forums I would say it is pretty close to accurate, at best it is 80/20.

I find that usually it is "straight from the mouths of babes", In other words people talk too much. Google is your friend though sometimes the juice is at the bottom of the results, a little patience pays off.

Example, the kid from xmanaged with his underground deal he has to keep quiet, a little google and you find that what he wants to keep quiet is public information that he put out there himself.

Your right on there, but this is easily solved by asking for proof of their certification, or better yet, having certification organizations that write "Click to verify" on their logo.

We recently were checking out a host who was displaying a BBB logo. I asked the host for proof of their BBB certification, and I wasn't surprised when they responded, "Whats BBB?"

thats a good one..

Seriously, they should have the "click to verify" link. It might help a little.
