Using a domain on a personal computer

I noticed a company allows the ability to use your own domain name to point to your computer IP address so you can access your PC from anywhere.

Now, is there a easy way to accomplish this without having to use that service? Thanks for your help.

You just need a way to retrieve your IP address from anywhere, that's all. You could use any database of any kind on any server (servers you know will be reachable from anywhere) to do that. Using DNS is just more practical.
