Questions about modernbill ?

We just purchase the latest version of ModernBill and I must say the install went pretty smooth.

The configuring is a nightmare however. I still dont fully understand the process of billing credit cards with authorize.net and MB.

The forums for MB seem to have a decent amount of info, but are a tad slow in responding. I am a little disappointed in the new version of MB however as I dont find the order form as intuitive as what I have seen in the past installations of MB.

Who uses MB on the forums here, and what version are you using. Any good replacement order forms for the latest version? Anyone really good at understand and explaining MB?

I may seriously have to pay someone so that I can discuss how MB handles certain things and how I should configure certain aspects.

Hello,

I've been using Modernbill for quite some time now, and have it integrated with auth.net and so forth on billing CC's.

I can assist you with the configuration and such. just give me an email or IM.

Here is a question, should I install 4.1.5 or 4.2.1 ?

I have heard 4.2.1 is kinda buggy? Any recommendations, pros and cons? Would be happy to hear.

I would personally go with 4.2.x, as its alot more flexible that 4.1.x.

Hard to really say the pros/cons But i would go with 4.2 if this is a new install

What if you're already 4.1.x? Would you upgrade to 4.2.x?

Yes, me personally I would.

I have done 1 upgrade for a guy already and went smooth from 4.1.x to 4.2.x.

But for new installations alone, i would suggest just starting out at 4.2.x and not installing the 4.1.x.

Good to know, this will be a new installation for us, we have a working billing system but it is time to move on. Hoping to get things up and running on MB soon and tested then move our clients over. Guess we will start with the latest build.

I notice they (MB) seem to have updated things just today I think. How is the upgrade process from 4.2.x to 4.2.xx ? They come out with these new builds fairly often it seems and I just wonder how the upgrades affect customizations and stuff?

Just a few things you have to watch out for when upgrading releases, mainly just the config file, (unless you just want to rededit it) and your order for template customizations.

I tried upgrading to 4..2 and seemed to mess with templates that didn't exist.

I upgraded from 4.1.x to 4.2 and it runs great, though I've heard it makes things odd if you have any third party modules installed.

Ok anyone up to answering some questions on setting up MB?

I am in the process of setting up the latest version as a new install. Considering moving to MB if I can ever get it setup and tested to do what I want.

Anyway, the billing process. The way my current setup is, and how I would like it is that an order comes in and get processed via authorize.net. CC info is stored encrypted and on the anniversary date say one month from the order date there credit card is charged again. I kick off the process to charge the CC but I really dont have to do anything but say "Bill Now". There is a daily cron job or something that runs and figures out who is due on any given day. Pretty nice and simple. I am assuming that MB can be setup to pretty much do the same thing?

I am setting up the billing area now. I selected Anniversary date billing, easy enough. However their are some other options I am just not sure about:

Enable Static Invoice Due Date

Set Invoice Due Date

Set Due-Date Based Off of Renew-Date

I checked out the manual but I just dont get it. I dont see why are where any of these would need to be used if using anniversary date billing or am I wrong?

Anyone anyone? :-) Ughh this is a pain to setup.

Well looks like things are clearing up nicely for me in getting this all setup. there is alot there but it is finally coming along. Need to get everything tweaked and setup just right, then tested.

Then work on changing look and feel and site integration.

Finally, moving old clients to new system. Oh boy! :-)

Well am probably going to need scooterh or someone else who knows MB inside out. I rarely sweat but this modern bill is making me sweat like crazy. My problem is that my gateway is Ogone which is a European processor. I am using some kind of instruction from MB manual page 242 to integrate your own gateway, but the instruction is making reference to files that dont exist . If I cant get this going by tomorrow, this baby is up for sale!

Mirage I feel your pain! Lucky for me my processor authorize.net is easily integrated. But I know how much time and effort has to go into setting up and customizing MB. I have been non stop at it for two days and it still is not there yet.

But I must say it is nice, and does a ton more then what I had. So far I am very happy with it and believe it will be around with me for a long time. Hopefully it will be the final billing solution I go with and will help me take the business a little further along to the point I want it to get at.
