Enom problems?
Anyone else having problems with their Enom URL redirection service this weekend? Three of the four domains I have with them weren't working yesterday; now all four aren't working today. I called tech support last night and this morning and just got a recording. Am seriously considering finding another service for those domains (I understand that everyone has technical glitches from time to time, but I can't stand crappy service).

I've had a completely different problem:
Register domain
set nameservers to NS1.DIXIESYS.COM and NS2.DIXIESYS.COM
wait a day or so
whois <domain>
and I see something like this:
Whois Server Version 1.3
Domain names in the .com, .net, and .org domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
for detailed information.
Domain Name: xxx
Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.enom.com
Referral URL: http://www.enom.com
Name Server: NS2.DIXIESYS.COM
Name Server: NS1.DIXIESYS.COM
Updated Date: 20-jan-2002
Then it goes on to show the Internic.net stuff:
Found InterNIC referral to whois.enom.com.
Domain name: xxx
DOMAIN CREATED : 2002-01-20 15:07:36
DOMAIN EXPIRES : 2003-01-20 15:07:36
NAMESERVERS:
And that's where it stops. No name servers.
I've had not just 1 but 5 domains lately do this! you can't ping the domains (unknown host) can't get to the web sites.
The domain I got that paste from notice registered 1-20 and it's NOT ACCESSIBLE yet.

My domains still show this, though http://www.internic.com/whois.html shows the correct nameservers and the domains work fine. Gary, check here to see if the new entries are showing up.

I just bought 3 domains through them last night, and all of them are up and ready to go,
Domain Name: SPGOLD.COM
Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.enom.com
Referral URL: http://www.enom.com
Name Server: NS1.PHPGURUS.NET
Name Server: NS2.PHPGURUS.NET
Updated Date: 27-jan-2002
So all the details are there

Here's the tail end of my whois for spgold.com and the nslookup:
DOMAIN CREATED : 2002-01-27 00:00:00
DOMAIN EXPIRES : 2003-01-27 00:00:00
NAMESERVERS:
[root@www4 /root]# nslookup spgold.com
Note: nslookup is deprecated and may be removed from future releases.
Consider using the `dig' or `host' programs instead. Run nslookup with
the `-sil[ent]' option to prevent this message from appearing.
Server: 209.51.157.163
Address: 209.51.157.163#53
** server can't find spgold.com.: SERVFAIL
[root@www4 /root]#
can't ping it either.

FYI, enom's URL redirection service was indeed down this weekend, since some of my redirects weren't going anywere and a server timeout happened while trying to change settings.

The Good Outweighs The Bad
I have over 500 names with them. The things I do and get done fast and efficiently through Enom definitely overcome any inefficientcies I have encountered with Enom.com
I buy and sell domains daily, and yes, in the last year, ther has been a problem or two. But I have been through countless other registrars before settling in with Enom.

from PowerPipe (eNom) customer support:
Chris,
Thank you for your email.
Your nameserver info may need to be reset. We see the problem occur in
about 3% of registrations. It's a bug at the registry level. Please enter
your DNS info again by following the instructions below:
You can manage your DNS by clicking on the "Manage Domains" link at
www.powerpipe.com, then click on "manage com, net, org".
1) Log in using the password you chose for your domain when registering
2) Click on "nameservers", and then select "use your own nameservers"
3) enter ONLY your primary and secondary nameserver names (ns1.example.com,
ns2.example.com) NOT the IP addresses (123.234.123.234)
4) click the Modify button, and wait 30 seconds before exiting the system
Your DNS will begin resolving throughout the WWW about 24 hours after you
submit the changes.
If you want to use free email forwarding and URL forwarding features:
1) Log in using the password you chose for your domain when registering
2) Click on "nameservers", and then select "use your our nameservers"
3) click the Modify button, and wait 30 seconds before exiting the system
IMPORTANT NOTE: Forwarding features will not function until 24 - 48 hours
after you submit the DNS changes.
When forwarding a domain:
First Row: Under the "host" column, put the "@" symbol. Under the address
column, enter the full URL of your destination address, and be sure to
include "http://" and "www" in the address. In other words, you could
forward to http://www.powerpipe.com/hosting.asp (this is an example of a
full URL). Select URL forwarding or URL Frame instead of "A- Record" . URL
Frame will forward the domain but will replace the destination URL in the
browser address bar with your domain.
Second Row: Under the "host" column, put www . Under the address
column, enter the full URL of your destination address, and be sure to
include "http://" and "www" in the address. In other words, you could
forward to http://www.powerpipe.com/hosting.asp . (This is an example of a
full URL) Select URL forwarding or URL Frame instead of "A- Record" . URL
Frame will forward the domain but will replace the destination URL in the
browser address bar with your domain.
Click "modify" and wait 30 seconds before exiting the system.
(PS: You do not need to be concerned about setting the MX record info. The
system will set the correct info by default when you click "modify")
To forward email: this feature is very straightforward. Simply forward from
one email address to the destination email address.
Should you prefer (or require) technical assistance, PowerPipe.com offers a
one-time set up fee for $21. A technician will create the proper settings
for you for any of your domain accounts, and you can use the example as a
template for future accounts. Alternatively, at your option, you may prefer
that a PowerPipe.com technician always be responsible for forwarding your
domains. PowerPipe.com charges a very reasonable fee of $21 for this
service.
