SSH through proxy

Hi

I am behind a company firewall and I would still like to be able to use Secure Shell (SSH).

Is there any way to run Secure Shell through our proxy server?

I tried putty with HTTP proxy option but I get this error

Code:
Proxy error: 502 Proxy Error ( The specified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) port is not allowed.
ISA Server is not configured to allow SSL requests from this port.
Most Web browsers use port 443 for SSL requests. )
BTW, I use windows xp pro.

Your firewall is just not letting that port though. I would run the sshd on a different port, like 443 and it will probably work.

Of course then you have to remeber your employer put the proxy up so that people could limit access...

/etc/ssh/sshd_config
change port to 443
service sshd restart

Then if you want a little more privacy you could run a proxy on your server (accepting connections from localhost only), and setup a tunnel using Putty. Make sure to disable Blowfish encryption though and enable compression.

Make sure Apache has no port SSL binding tho

The reason why you can't go outbound from work to you server via port 443 is because the servers allowed outbound are the proxy servers and not the workstations on the intranet network.

login to cpanel and click on SSH/Shell Access
This will pop up an applet you can use to ssh from a browser.
