Sweeeet! Just got it. I'm about fed up with Microsoft's ever-irritating Find File feature.

I actually tried that before it was added to the site and from what I've seen it's not that good.

google desktop sucks.
it creates a server on your coputer:
all searches are as follows:
http://127.0.0.1:4664
this is not right.
I thought it was like an application....

What's wrong with that? Only reason it could potentially suck was if it was "published" so anyone could search your desktop knowing your IP. But I doubt google in their weirdest of dreams would leave a hole like that
Honestly, I love it. I still need to leave my computer idle to finish the indexing but Microsoft's Find File feature had been getting on me for it's slackiness.

i dont need a server running on my computer..

One would safely assume that an experienced computer user like yourself would ensure that you are behind a firewall. Hardware firewall if possible, if not, a software firewall will do.
Head over to http://grc.com and scan to see if that port is open or not, from the outside.

http://127.0.0.1:4664 is the same as localhost, you can run a server on ur PC, I do. You can set it so it does'nt connect to the internet and allow people in, I would bet google has already thought of this so don't worry. If you do get hacked sue them, they are rich now.

I'll have to try it one of these days.
Google is truly becoming the dominant player on the Web. Fortunately they can't be compared to the likes of Microsoft.

i do run a server from my pc.. for script testing purposes..
however, anyone can get in if it wasnt for my firewall and router
however, not everyone is behind a router and/or firewall
I didnt ask google to run a server.. i wanted it to search.. thats completely different
I am unsatisfied with this google project..
although the toolbar is awesome.
