These are "my" thoughts, as I was with them for just over 2 years. They provide quality service, and I don't question that at all. Their prices are "decent" too, but you can find better now. When I first signed up with them(3 years ago), at their $9.95 plan, it was one of the better plans I could find. Unfortunately, that 50mb plan is what they still have for that price, and I've found better elsewhere. My site outgrew the 50mb, so I had to up to the 75mb plan($14.95/month), and was when I started looking for other options. I'm with a different host now, getting 200mb for under $10/month, and like it a lot better.
BUT....you only asked how they are....and basically, I never had a problem with their "quality", so on that aspect, I give them thumbs up! A few bumps in my time with them were: stat files grow BIG, and that is counted as part of your "space"(at least it was as of a year ago), so even if you have a 40mb site, if your stats are reaching 11mb, you're over your 50mb limit! This happened to me one month, and I was charged their overage fee(which they clearly state). I was sent a notice, and I promptly went in and did some file cleaning to get things in shape to accomodate the stats better. But, I still didn't like the overage fee as I was only "over" slightly for a few hours....my "average" was a LOT under. I do realize this was clearly noted though, and I accepted it.
Another issue that was a concern to me, and maybe they've changed this in the past year(as they've switched from Softcom to Myhosting for their hosting outlet name), is that they ran these accounts on NT, and though they offered "cgi-bin", it was ASP only. You had to actually convert Perl scripts to ASP if you wanted to use them. Maybe they've implemented Perl/etc. since then, but I didn't know all this when I signed up with them. I learned later it meant ASP or bust for scripting on their accounts. Thus, take a GOOD look at that if you're interested in any CGI/etc. issues!
This is a Candian Company and this is possibly a private concern, but ended up being the final issue to me. I live in the states, and I do NOT use Credit Cards, so any place I deal with must accept "paper" payments. I usually do Postal Money Orders for good processing, and good records for such things. They always accepted these, until last year(I "was" already looking for another host though, mind you). This is when they told me their bank wasn't accepting "US funds" any more, and I had to pay with an "international money order" instead. The fee was $3 rather than the under $1, and an extra couple bucks each payment wasn't to my liking, as their offerings weren't as competive as I'd like them to be at the time, so I did that once, and then found another host. If you pay via CC or are from Canada, it may not be an issue, but this was for me!
Let me mention again, I had "good" service, and things usually seemed to work well. They notified ahead for any "server servicing" they would be doing, etc.(that was a nice touch!) Their rates are "fair" but you can now find some better deals out there, and that's what I've personally done. If their offerings are to your liking, and the above concerns aren't likely to be issues to you, you'd probably do fine with them. I don't say to avoid them, but personally, I've moved beyond their services, and don't regret it.
If you're looking for "other" offers, take a look in the Offers section of this forum.....you might find a good host that offers as much or more. But, MyHosting.com(aka Softcomca.com) could fit your needs too. Hope this helps a little.....it's only my 2 cents worth!
