Anyone know anything about this domain registrar?

Yes

Yes. Avoid them...

The service is quite poor... if you want the web forwarding you get loads of downtime and if you don't you'll be best off heading elsewhere to buy a domain.

Thanks,

Unfortunately I already got a domain from them a month ago. Its seems to be ok so far. I just don't like their sitebuilder.

I haven't had much trouble with them. They have some decent services, but all in all, I'm not sure it's worth it. I used their email filtering for a while, but lately haven't bothered. The subdomains feature is nice, but I would rather do it myself at this point.

I'll probably transfer the domain to another registrar soon.

Speaking of problems

I can't even log in to make some suggested changes, plus I can't even figure out how to do the sub-domain feature, what the heck is that anyway?

They call them bookmarks. I guess they figure that's a more gentle term for a beginner to deal with. After you log in, there'll be a menu at the top of the window. Just click on "bookmarks" and set up your subdomains - um, er I mean bookmarks. It's actually pretty easy to use and you an set up as many as you want.

I was having around 30% or so downtime with them in December. I then bought myself a hosting package and transferred the domain elsewhere so I don't really know how things are now.

Currently for my registrations I'm using www.namecheap.com ... it's got all the features of namezero and more and costs less.

Psi,
Avoid Namezero. They are a bad company. For several reasons they are no good. I will site a few. Horrible interface to control your domain name. Bad support times. It takes litterally 12 days to get an email back from support. Calling them usually resolves the problem within 1hr.

They have outragous fees when you want to purchase the domain name from them. I think its something like $35 or so. When trying to make DNS changes they take forever. Basically they have namezero setup to do a frame forward type of service and charge $$$ for purchasing the domain name. Go with someone cheaper and with better support. ;-)

See that is the issue. The ownership of the domain name is actally owned by Namezero until you fork over the 39.95 or so. Then this will allow you change the ownership to your name but this still does not get rid of Namezero. You then have to still use them as your register. If you want to transfer to someone like godaddy.com or someone else I believe there may be a fee. You should contact them on this one. Also you might want to be aware of problems that may arise when you will want to have the domain name hosted. They are mainly a frame forward type of company allowing you to point your domain name to geocities or another site. When you will try to change the nameservers for the domain name you will have to be the sole owner. They will not allow this because you will need to buy it first. Then when you change the name to your ownership and change the DNS they will use NETSOL.com which is also a pain because changes are slow.

For example. I had a nameserver that was registered with godaddy.com and was fully functional on the internet and you could clearly see the nameserver active at internic.net but NETSOL.com did not have my nameserver in their whois database. This was a huge problem. I spent two weeks waiting for NETSOL.com to update their whois database to see my nameserver so that NameZero could then change a domain to my DNS. Basically it took like 3 weeks to get anything done with both companies. Good luck. ;-)

You don't re-register the domain, you transfer it to another registrar.

The losing registrar has to let it go. The admin contact for the domain has to approve the transfer.

If you don't own the domain, then NameZero will have to let it expire, then the domain will have to drop - and then you can register it at a new registrar.

Depending on where NameZero has registered your domain, it may drop 45 days after expiring, or it may takes years...

I do own it

I paid whatever to signup and get it reigstered for a year along with the site builder. I just need to find out more about webhosting and stuff. I have other sites and I hate looking at my site meter and my site not as psiprone.com but some long 'membersite.namezero.com/whatever all the time.

I see

But the guy that was upset, the original poster had a free domain through them. I don't know how he missed it. I have a plus account, so as far as I know my domain is mine.

That's good then.

As far as your domain not pointing....it could be your name servers not pointing to the host or the alias record not set properly.
