I use and recommend www.mailsnare.net and have also used www.fastmail.fm - both are inexpensive, both offer excellent antispam/av.

Everything sounds good except the price! If you get a normal hosting account, you'll get basically the same thing plus a lot more. you could choose to use or not use your hosting account at all.

Yes, there are. There's quite a large market for outsourced email hosting... and the vast majority of the providers aren't running a single MX and their only two DNS servers on one machine.

So what do you think the best freemail servers are? We still use hotmail for our backup mail etc.

Erk. "Best", "free", and "backup"? Seems like a dangerous combination.

I haven't looked at a free email site in years. Judging from the comments of our customers, you often get what you pay for, at least with them. Some people lately seem to swear by Gmail... don't really know.

I looked at my earlier post, I didn't mean to imply that I wasn't recommending fastmail, if I weren't I wouldn't mention them. Personally, I don't see how the buck a month FM charges for a perfectly reasonable account can be considered expensive.
