I seriously doudt any of those listed would colo a single xeon server, but I may be wrong.

Your best option is to look for companies in those or other datacenters throught the UK.

From what I know there isnt a dedicated UK co-lo provider list anywhere on the web.

cabalstudios, I don't think your signature is very appropriate!

active, where in the UK are you?
Would you require access to the server 24/7?
What sort of bandwidth do you need? (e.g. 1mbit/2mbit/xmbit)

Reply with that information, and I'll have a look for you and see who there is to recommend

i'm probably wrong, but does a company called RedBus come to anybody's mind? I've heard good things about them, and they are apparently in the UK, but I dont know if they do colo for single servers.

I did want to throw that name out there

I believe that Redbus do actually do colo for single servers, but I would imagine it's much more expensive than going to an ISP that has their own racks / suite, especially for the bandwidth levels you mention.

most places in London Telehouse are out of the question, the majority of places that I can think of charge something stupid per GB.

In all honesty active, you may be better off sending your server to Amsterdam Redbus, where the bandwidth is much much cheaper. Although there is then the issue of accessibility for you.

There are plenty of ISPs in London that will have colo packages with x hundred gigs per month at a pretty reasonable rate these days.

I'm with Robin on this one.

Within the UK there are plenty of providers who will accomodate your requirements although, as always, an important choice is deciding which are the good ones and which aren't :-) The cheapest places are quite often just that - because they run on the cheapest stuff they can find, both in transit and hardware aspects. You'll probably end up much a more satisfied customer if you instead concentrate on finding a host with a good balance between price, network quality and customer service but it all depends on what you are looking for and expect from a host I guess.

I'm not sure why you would choose to colocate a server of your own in a foreign country and lose out on the ability to access it yourself when necessary without grabbing flights, deal with people who speak your language and trade in your currency among various other things just in order to save a few pounds per mbit. The advantages of keeping things in the UK outweigh those of going elsewhere, in our situation anyway - I can't speak for everyone ;-)

The key phrase here is look for "good value for money", /not/ "cheap"

You may ask :-)

It depends on what 'active' expects from a host. Everyone's requirements are different and, because individual hosts will often be geared towards a particular target market (an example difference being 16 year old kids with their first colo machine to run IRC servers on and a large company colocating mission critical load balanced solutions), not every host will be ideal.

Someone requiring premium quality transit for instance, wouldn't often be advised to go with a provider primarily using Cogent. But then again, someone who doesnt care much about the transit quality and only price may be quite happy to put up with some less-than-optimum routing :-)

As for hosts active should stay away from - without knowing his or her requirements the best I can suggest is to take a look at some promising looking providers and, if available, comments about them on boards such as this and other, more UK focused ones with a view to seeing how suitable they are in this particular case.

http://www.dedipower.co.uk - Take a look at these guys. Drop them an e-mail or give them a call, and I'm sure they could work you out a good price for 400gb/month colo.

Thanks,
Alan.
