What is up with this ****?
Okay I got a new computer right, and it had a printer that came with it. So I was like great! Well what they do not tell you (you find out) parts for the printer does not go with it (USB cable, and one other thing). That you have to buy that separate. Why on earth should you by the printer, then by parts for it to work?
What is up with that crap?

That's pretty typical.
Even if you buy a new printer separately you usually have to buy the USB cable.

Indeed. It's standard that you buy the cable seperate. I have yet to purchase a printer or other such devices which included the cable.
It is just like batteries.. most products don't come with them.

Yeah, i know when i bought my wife her ipod, i had the option of buying a 15-20 dollar usb cable or a 20-25 dollar pci firewire card. I decided to get the card an add a feature to the computer...

Though I still not get why you should by extra parts when you buy something (or get it with the price). Just does not make much sense . They try and rip you off that what it is!!!

I thought that was starting to change. When I bought my new printer (an HP PSC 1210) it came with the USB cable. Previously I had to buy cables separately.

Same here. I always buy HP printers and all have some with a USB cable. Might be a good pointer to which brand you buy next.

Their excuse is that a lot of people already have a printer and are upgrading, therefore to keep costs down they don't supply a cable since a lot of people will already have one from their current printer.

No printer comes with a USB cable... I don't understand why, but I know it's a bitch for customers that don't get that information. They're usually pretty pissed off about it, when they don't get that information.
It's even worse though when you get a cat5 cable/network cable instead of a USB cable hehe
