I was just curious given the new control panel and IP charges that Alabanza has just implemented are any of y'all using a cgi script to redirect some domains to subdirectories? We host some very small accounts that have next to no bandwith and they do not use the control panels so it seems to be a bit of a waste of an IP address. Also if you do use a script which one do you recommend and how do you deal with the domain branded e-mail requests? Thanks!

Well, since Alabanza does not charge me for the IP address, and only for the CP, I would just set them up with their own account and disable the CP so that I am not charged the licensing fee for it.

I thought they gave you 500 IPs and then started charging you for additional IPs and control panels. We buy part of the server in bulk by the number of IPs. I was simply thinking that a redirect script might make better use of the space with some really small accounts.

No. I asked this question specifically.

You are charged per CP, not per IP.
At least that's what is in my contract.

Hmm well I suppose that would help once I get to the full server stage. Course given the recent price changes that will be a bit longer than I anticipated Thanks for the info.

There are 500 IPs included. All additional IPs are charged extra. The CP charges are independant of the IP charges:

Contract states: "The WEB Server shall come with 50 Gb of transfer per month. The WEB Server shall have up to 500 IPs." etc.

Kosmo:

Your contract is different than mine. Mine says that I will have 50GB of bandwidth, but the CP are first 35 free, 36-500 at $1.00 each, 501-1000 at $3.00 each.

Not a word about IPs

Alabanza now charges 1$ for every extra control panel over the 35 that are given that the begining.

There are several programs that do this. One is domaindirector. The problem with this script is it shows the index file as a part of the uRL in the browser window. EX: mydomain.com/index.html rather tha just mydomain.html.

There are other programs that can do redirects without the file in the URL but they use frames to do so and will casue problems with SEs.

You can find these programs at http://www.cgi-resources.com under REDIRECTS/URL based.
