Looking to move to a dedicated

I run a fairly popular site (http://sonikku.com/) and am currently on a semi-dedicated (5-10 users per server) hosting plan. I am looking to move to a dedicated server and would like to know what would be a good place to start. I don't use that much bandwidth (50 - 60 GB a month), but I do use quite a bit of CPU usage and memory. My forums are the biggest part of my site, and usually have 70-100 users online during peak times. How much memory and how fast a processor would be recommended for that? I saw Value Web's plans and they look pretty good.

I'd certainly recommend going for at least a P4 2.4 rather than a Celeron - ideally a dual Xeon to cope with future growth (you don't want to move too many times do you?). 1GB memory should cut it.

Regards,

That's actually not very many users.....

on my main forum, plus another forum roughly the size of yours and my 1.7Ghz Celeron serves 3x that and stays under a 1.5 load average at all times

The smaller one uses IPB and actually eats up more CPU than the Vb one which is bigger.....

you should be able to survive with a fast celeron.

i have a 2.4 celeron i run a couple of site which average around 50 users and can peak at more than 200+.

i run all my sites with a lot of the performance draining features turned on. and i don't have any PHP optimizers either. with this, my server hardly goes beyond 1.5.

however, you do need to worry about future expansion. your demand will certainly be pushing the celeron quite close to its limit and while it may be sufficient for now, you maybe better off paying a few more bucks for the faster systems.

I recommend you check out the specials in the Dedicated and Colo Hosting Offers forum. You might find yourself a bargain.

Tried to PM you but it doesn't work. Anyways, i wanna ask you (if you don't mind telling) the host your with for the semi-dedicated solution and your opinions.

I'm looking for a semi-dedicated plan.

Thanks!
