New Server Hosting Company

Hi,

I thinking to create a company that would have services like dedicated servers, co-location and webhosting.. i search in my island for 1 company like that and there is only 1 but its a mess.. I already contact some goverment institutions and the "goverment" can give us some founds to build a datacenter. My question is: should i go with the datacenter solution or its too much riscky? if its a bad ideia what other solution do i have?

Tks for your time

From your question, I would suggest:

1. Do your business plan: obviously the issue of what's "risky" is best defined by yourself and whether you are willing to bear that level. Naturally a huge determinant in that is usually how much gain you can get in return. Now you aren't going to know that unless you get your business plan up with some realistic projections (Financial) and a corresponding game plan to hit those numbers.

2. Hire a consultant: building a DC isn't just about pulling a line to a building and you are up. You need a lot of expertise that I suspect is lacking right now. So you need someone with the experience. (either by hiring inhouse or getting an external consultant)

Just curious, what country are you in?

Yeah, obviously you need a solid business plan before investing... require lotsa modal, I don't think you want to dump millions of dollars into drain...

You are easily looking at 6 digits even if it is a small datacenter. For one, a datacenter isn't just any good ol' building.

You need to install for example high end security, fireproof facilities, generators, UPS, raised flooring, a NOC, invest in routers, monitoring software, and such. In general, you need to ensure

1. Physical Security
2. Redundant Power supplies
3. Disaster Proof
4. Fire Proof

If you are in a earthquake zone, you would also want to make sure that it is certified for up to a level of quakes (though the best is that it's really not in one)

None of the above is cheap. And this are just setup cost. You still have monthly maintainance and more. And this is for a small setup. If you look at a bigger setup, it can easily bloom into the 7 digit area.

Have you tried eBay? Even if there isn't a version for you home country, sometimes sellers ship worldwide.
