Start a Web Host Business

Most people start by purchase plans at a discount. Then they generally find that it is more profitable to purchase a bulk reseller plan where they can divide space and bandwidth as they please. Phase three is typically leasing dedicated servers.

As a rule of thumb-certainly debatable, I offer the following.

0-10 accounts...purchase at discount.

10-75...use bulk reseller account

Over 75...dedicated server.

Also, I suggest finding a host who offers all three at reasonable prices and provides quality service so you can migrate without changing hosts.

Last, you may also want to search for a host that will provide support to your customers either anonymously or under your name.

Do plenty of research first
and sign up to resell somewhere. It can definitely give you a feel of what the industry is like in many ways, and you arent out any huge operational costs of running a server.
There is a reseller forum here at WHT so you might want to browse that forum

Here is another resource for ones interested in reselling

Good Luck.

a good reseller

Try http://www.Donhost.com a British based company. I use them and they give everything they promise. Watch out on data transfers. They give you 50 gigs for about 50$ USD for all your accounts (dist. it how you wish). 50gigs is plenty for a newbie but once you break that 50 limit their rates are way too high on extra transfers. By the way that 50 includes FTP traffic, email, and regular visits to the site. It might be a good idea to not host "your" site with your account as to save your resources.

I sure would not go with Donhost. They use that sickening 'unlimited' word. If you search these boards you will find many-a-horror story. You'd be much better off going with say MCHost, or Splash Host for these bulk-style reseller plans.

One more note for FlashHelper. The hosting industry is extremely flooded at the moment, there are a heap of new ones putting a large dent in the industry by offering things that they simply can't and leaving their customers suffering because of it.

Being a web hosting company, to new people, generally looks like a great way to get rich, though if you study the industry more, you will notice it takes very well thought out planning and a heap of dedication. Please don't just 'have a go' at being a webhost, I think there are too many of them at the moment, you have to be 100% sure this is what you want to do.

new starter

From experience there are many poor hosting companies that offer reseller hosting accounts. If you have no knowledge of running a hosting company you would probably need to start with one of these reseller accounts. If you have the knowledge of servers and the hosting industry, and some cash, I would start of straight away with a dedicated server.

Also need Merchant account, Bank account, money, website, and a lot of time and effort.

Good Luck

What are you trying to say here? Are you referring to the companies mentioned above?

Also once you've completed your research, be sure to write a detailed business plan. It will help later on.

Did you also hear what happened to F2S? They have had to stop offering free hosting services because they have burnt too much money - free hosting is simply economically unviable, unless you want to continuously lose money...
