Does anyone have a sample command list to send to a socks5 proxy to connect to a remote host

eg, say i wanted to connect to example.com on port 10000, through a proxy server (socks5) does anyone have a sample command list to do this

i have been reading the socks5 rfc's for about 6 hours, and to be honist, not one bit of it makes sense
