Mainly for BC but if anyone else knows.

Are their any good australlain soccer websites?. I watched world soccer last night and found out Glasgow Rangers have bought a large stake in Northern Spirit and would just like to follow Spirit to find out if Rangers investing pays off or not.

Eddie,

Northern Spirit's web site is at http://www.northernspirit.com.au/

Annoyingly enough, the National Soccer League doesn't have its own website (stupid!) so I'm going to refer you to our local rags which has some good soccer coverage :

http://www.sportstoday.com.au
http://www.abc.net.au/soccer/

really?

That is kinda odd. Don't watch an ounce of soccer myself but I do know it's getting pretty huge down here now (especially on a professional level). Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't some match last year generate one of the largest crowds ever at a football game?

*using football as a collective term for Aussie Rules, Soccer, Rugby, and League*

And with the socceroo's doing so well all the time you'd think the national league would do something.

I was under the impression that Australians didn't stoop to such barbarisms as playing soccer.

And of course, they don't ever drink beer, either.

This is a cultured nation, where the preferred passtime is a dignified browse through an art gallery.

Thus, of course, you'll find little in the search engines on the aforementioned topic.

Well, folks, my Aussie cousins arrived tonight so I'm looking forward (not!) to many riveting discussions about soccer over the next week or so.

That's OK, I'll get even by bringing up baseball.

[edit]
BTW, can anyone offer a couple of statements or quotes I could say to them that would make me sound like I knew something about Aussie soccer? That would really get a rise out of them!

Uhmmm.. I don't profess to know a lot about Aussie soccer, but you could try :

Wollongong Hawks (the australian champions) suck!

Uhmmmmm..... Don't know much more above that...

Umm isn't 'Posh Spice' married to an Australian soccer player - David Beckham?

Hmm.. not a lot I know about soccer, but I know it's played a lot more 'down south' than here in Queensland. Mainly Victoria I think, and maybe South Australia.

Also we use Kangaroos as goalies as they jump well and can defend with the best of them... We tried emu's but as they don't have arms too many balls were getting past them into the net. The balls are made of stuffed wombats as they are the roundest of all our native animals so therefore there is less waste of skin. We tried koalas for a while but found there was more money in having them as photo opportunities for tourists.

The first two paragraphs are true as far as I know.. the third *might* be a little bit of a white lie. *grin*
