Question

Configure domain for existing site

Newbie dumb question of the day:
I'm a little confused. I have an existing site on another host that I want to transfer to space on my WHM managed host.

When I try to configure it I get the "already exists" error.

Well of course it already exists! But I want to move its existance here.

What is the suggested procedure for minimal downtime?
Thanks,
Chip

Your best bet would probably be to talk to your current host. You could then perform a backup at your old host and have the new host restore it for you. This can be done via SSH even if the user already exists.

[edit]cpanel backup utilitie will do this for a restore. [/edit]

Question Still confused

I have an existing reseller account on Host "A"

And a customer wants to move their existing domain "stuff.com" from their old host "B" to my account on Host A.

I have their registration password so I can change the name server whenever I want to.
I have their FTP Login for Host B.
I've downloaded their entire site to my PC.

I want to set up their new site on my Host A.
Upload their site and check it first. Make sure the scripts still work etc.

Only after I've uploaded and checked their site do I want to move the Name Server to make the new location active.

How do I do this within WHM, because if keep getting the "name already exists."

Do I set up a sub domain which I can then move to a full domain?

Thanks,
