My Internet speed is non-existant.

Hey everyone,

I've been noticing that my speed that my internet has been lately is quite bad.
I did a speed test at : http://bandwidthplace.com
I came up with the results:
Communications 91.5 kilobits per second
Storage 11.2 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 1.5 minutes
Subjective rating Slow

I'm running on a wireless laptop. Linksys router.
I notice when I go into the device manager, and under Network Adapters:
Theres an "X" under 1394 Adapter and National SemiConductor Corp....
LAN-Express IEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter is the only one thats ok.

Any ideas on whats causing the speed to shutdown on me?

Thanks,

Your router!!!!!!

I have the same problem!!!!!!!!!!

Right now it seems to be ok:

2.1 Megs Down / 254.2kb UP

I also have my TCP window @ 64240 (With a tweak thing gotton from DSLREPORTS.COM)

Usually my speed sucks though and its mainly due to gthis crappy router not getting enough signal from/to the modem

What speed are you connecting wirelessly to your router at? You may be getting a bad connection or there may be some serious interferance in your location.

PS > I'm getting 2.9Mb/sec

Try mousing over your connection in your toolbar. Mine says 54.0 Mbit to the router.

if you want anything faster than 11Mbps you must look for those 802.11g (54Mbps) wireless adapters, and a faster (54Mbps, 104Mbps..) router.

11Mbps is plenty for broadband internet browsing. Whenever you need to transfer large files between your laptop and desktop, just use a wired connection at 100Mbps. That's what I do.

Also, when you mouseover the network icon , it also tells you the signal strenth. Anything below good will give you a slow connection even though it still connects at 11Mbps.

That should still be able to max your modem...how far away are you from the wireless AP or router?

Try plugging your computer directly into the cable modem and test from that.

bandwith place has chnaged, its not very acuarate, use http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest choose the location closest to you, and since your on wirelesss, go intoo your routers config , and go to advanced/wireless and make sure the max speed of of the wireless is set to full, like 2-11 mbps not 1-2
