This is the bottom end 128 MB VPS at KnownHost.
I'm totally baffled by the high score but best I can think of is that this server was almost empty and it was getting full use of the machine. Certainly much better than some other VPSs I've been on and better than my dedicated server. I expect that will change though - always does.Code:BYTE UNIX Benchmarks (Version 4.1-wht.1) Linux 2.6.9-023stab044.4-entnosplit #1 SMP Thu May 24 17:58:35 MSD 2007 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux Start Benchmark Run: Wed Jan 30 15:16:36 UTC 2008 15:16:36 up 3 days, 6:53, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00 End Benchmark Run: Wed Jan 30 15:26:45 UTC 2008 15:26:45 up 3 days, 7:03, 1 user, load average: 14.25, 6.11, 2.64 INDEX VALUES TEST BASELINE RESULT INDEX Dhrystone 2 using register variables 376783.7 24586900.1 652.5 Double-Precision Whetstone 83.1 1764.9 212.4 Execl Throughput 188.3 4482.6 238.1 File Copy 1024 bufsize 2000 maxblocks 2672.0 93641.0 350.5 File Copy 256 bufsize 500 maxblocks 1077.0 28212.0 261.9 File Read 4096 bufsize 8000 maxblocks 15382.0 786398.0 511.2 Pipe Throughput 111814.6 2605561.6 233.0 Pipe-based Context Switching 15448.6 510258.6 330.3 Process Creation 569.3 12215.9 214.6 Shell Scripts (8 concurrent) 44.8 1163.4 259.7 System Call Overhead 114433.5 3692700.3 322.7 ========= FINAL SCORE 305.2Last edited by csavery; 01-30-2008 at 11:45 AM.

So I've got a brand new toy.
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5320 @ 1.86GHz
16GB Memory
4x Barracuda 7200.10 SATA 3.0Gb/s 160-GB Hard Drive
4port 3ware 9550SXU-4LP, with the 4 drives in 2 Raid1 mirrors.
Centos 5.1 x86_64
This machine is going to be a QEMU-KVM/XEN-HVM machine, based on the results of my tests. Right now QEmu is winning the pure performance race, but not by much, but Xen is winning the configurability, flexibility, and stability race. These results are from an idle "Host" or "Dom-0" machine. I'm not very satisfied with the results when compared to the following results:
showpost.php?p=4916313&postcount=1294
showpost.php?p=4884193&postcount=1278
What can I do to boost my performance, or tweak my system to match the performance of some of the other similar rigs?
