Question

Political Sub-forum?

As the US election gets closer I am sure we will see more and more political threads, these always seem to attract flamewars which keeps them up on the Lounge's front page for weeks. I was hoping that WHT could create a sub-forum, much like the gmail sub-forum but for political threads, at least until November.

thanks for your consideration.

Its a good idea but it can get OUT OF CONTROL and members seem to let thier anger from that base carry over to the rest of the site........

It can be done,BUT STRICT GUIDELINES MUST BE SET AND MAINTAINED in order to do it......And i dunno if we have enough staff here that wanna do it.......It isnt easy (Especially if you wanna keep things in order)

Maybe some sort of ominous warning that abusive behavior won't be tolerated and can lead you to getting your account disabled, or something of that sort. It just is a very emotional topic.

Today isn't bad, in fact at this writing I don't see one political thread (edit: missed the sex for votes link... *sigh*). I just can see this become tiresome quickly with the RNC and the debates coming up. I just want to see the lounge keep mostly upbeat (not to say that serious issues shouldn't be discussed).

I really don't know what is the best solution, I just thought I would throw an idea out. Maybe everyone will act mature and only counter points people bring up without attacking them personally. (one can always hope for the best)

I think for the most part when they become flamewars they get closed -- and that should happen whether they're in the Lounge as it is or in a separate subforum. So I don't really see the need for it. There aren't more than a couple of active threads on the US election at any time, so it's not overwhelming the forum. And if such threads become more common, they can probably be merged into one or two.

You don't want a "no-point" sub forum?

I can see that anger part.

I have a no-point sub-forum on my board for battling it out, but it has a serparate set of rules and it's by invitation when a member hits so many posts, so someone just signing up can't cause WWIII right off.
