MSSQL QUESTION, please help

I am switching from crystaltech(excellect hoster) because they don't provide the bandwidth I need for my site reggaeflavaDOTcom. they used access databases.
With my new hoster, matrixreseller, I uses MSSQL.

My question is "How do I query a MSSQL database?"
I keep getting errors, my website/IP on the new host is 216.157.157.70

To query my access database the code would be"<cfquery name="getArtists" datasource="#dsn#">"

I AM A NOVICE AND WILLING TO LEARN, PLEASE HELP.

1) make sure that the MS SQL datastore is on the same server as the one you are hosting th web on, might be a shared SQL box for the datastore.

There are some slight differences in the sql syntax, but I dont think you will have much of an issue with it.

I would suggest a support ticket with your provider on this one reggaeflava

Good luck

They told my to visit aspmanager.com to find out about syntax.
They converted my access databse to MSSQL, so that was pretty cool.

Too bad I don't know how to query the darn thing.

You should really ask your host to provide help with querying your database. I'ld be surprised if a MSSQL host didn't even provide that much support. But like was said, the queries themselves will be the same, but your connection strings will be different. Ask your host what connection strings you have to use (if they won't help with syntax at least they should help with this).

Regards.

You will need to use a SQL connection string to connect to your database from your page. We get this question often and therefore put up a tutorial page with commonly used connection strings at http://www.1planhost.com/support/s_databaseconn.asp Scroll down and you will see four examples there.

If you do not want to put your SQL 2000 connection string on your actual ASP or CF pages where the public can view the source and see it, you can create an include file from a hidden page and then call it from within your page where desired. This is a common practice and often used to protect your SQL database.

Best Wishes for a .Net Success!

Data source not found. That says it all

what is your variable #DSN# defined as?

Connection string hint #1
create a file on your desktop named something.udl
double click on this new file and use the wizard. Try the sql
servername as localhost to startoff
Open the file using notepad and that is what your connection string should look like.

Side note, never did like CF coding...
