Need Help on Web hosting I just got screwed by Arteryplanet sucks

I got a mail from my web hosting Arteryplanet

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To all ArteryPlanet.Net Clients on Arterytc4.net Server,

It is with our most heartfelt grief that I inform you that all of the data on Arterytc4.net Server has been lost.

This does mean that all of the data on your website(s) is permanently gone.

The Hard Drive controller reversed the order of the disks during a reboot, making Disk1 "hot swappable" during a server reboot. This means the controller card
re-wrote the partition tables.

Our Support people tried to reboot the server several times before discovering this error.

When this happened all of the data on both hard drives were corrupted and cannot be restored.

So we have no choice but to remake your account(s) on the new server that is being built as a replacement for Arterytc4.net.

This account will be then have to be restored by you, using your backups (we hope you made backups with the nice backup utility in cPanel) or by FTP'ing your files
back onto the server.

If you need any assistance with this please let us know.

If we can answer any questions we are online at IM chat arteryplanet@msn.com

We appreciate your patience and will get all things back to normal as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Valerie Chisnell - Manuel Kissoyan
ArteryPlanet.Net

Can anyone suggest any good web hosting company which doesn't screw up this badly? and what legal action can I take?

Any help you be deeply be appreciated

Thanks,

YOU have to read your contract and see if they stated they do backups. Our company doesn't nightly backups and full rsnycs each night. We don't so them for the clients we acutally do them for ourselves in case of a terrible error like that.

I would like to know why did the controller card reverse the drive order. Usually something caused the controller card to do so.

This is not an uncommon or unheard situation. I wouldn't leave Arteryplanet just because of that. They've done and are their best.

I would give'm another chance and will back up my data next time.

Good luck

I think it's not a lame mistake and I believe asking for a second chance is totally unprofessional.

Can anyone recommend some good team which has good customer support and which answers to clients and not host 400 website on one server and all the other crapy things.

Also wanted to know if I can get a refund from arteryplanet as they said 99.9% up time and it's down this whole day?

thanks

This kind of thing DOES happen once in a while (im hoping only once in the businesses entire time of operation). I would try and give them another chance. But they SHOULD be giving some a free month or two, just to make up for their loss. At least i know alot of decent web hosting companies would do this.

The TOS will tell you whether you can take legal action or not. However, ultimately, you are responsible for your own data.

Unless they advertised Web Hosting with Backup, then you really can't do anything other than complain to them. Hardware issues happen, it's a way of life in the hosting world.

Well some of you are very generous to give them a second chance but you have to think I had my website running for one year and had done lot of work. I might have to redo all of it which might take me another month or so. I mean what will you do with two or three months of free hosting Infact I might pay some one double that amount to get my stuff back.

I don't know if this kind of screw up are that common as I am scare to death of going for any web hosting company.

Please advise

here is TOS

goldspot,

Believe or not, these things do happen and no hosts can pretend they will give you 100% data integrity guarantee. For the static contents of your site, I hope you have local copy. You must've uploaded them some time. As for the database and the on-the-fly contents you should back up even several times a day if necessary.

Backup guarantee is something that even backup service providers have some small prints for.

I know how you're feeling (personal experience in the past), but you shouldn't be scared of hosting with anyone just because of that unless a host has a bad reputation for it.

My advice: stay with your current host and next time be more vigulnet

Well before I thought the same I tried to contact them and support personal was really rude he doesn't understand how some body would be instead to relaxing me says he has no idea
when this would be up he hasn't got an ETA and he is their system Admin.

I aked him to give me a temporary hosting on any of the server
and he doesn't answer. I mean if this things are common atleast some backup server facility should be there atleast one splash page that I can host.

It took me one year to go google, yahoo and other search engine
and it would just take me a day to pushed back six months.

It's already more then 13 hrs that I know the server is down but there is no arrangement.

So if the service sucks hosting sucks wh would anyone host with them?

No matter what, things like this happen. There are definotly things that can prevent this (even 99.99999% proof ways). If the server has been down 13 hours and all your data is lost, I would move, I recommend you do the same. I belive in second chances but not this time.

Didn't they have a hacker attack not too long ago that wiped out all index.html pages and replaced them with pr0n0 links?

We do daily offsite backups but still recommend customers making their own backups. If your not backing up that's really your problem.

absolving the host of any fault seems a bit silly. Yes he should've had backups but his hosts server shouldn't have miraculously switched orders (BS). Even if the harddrives did switch themselves or someone reversed them, that won't overwrite partition tables. Something fishy went on. Saying tough luck is a bit cold. In a perfect world he would've had backups and his host wouldn't have sucked, sadly it's not a perfect world.
