I heard inside a xbox, its a actaull hardrive. So does that mean u can unplug the harddrive in the xbox and plug it onto your motherboard.

And if you can do that, what kinda cables does the xbox hardrive use, IDE or the Serial ATA cables.

My computer right now has 2 120gig Serial ATA hard drives, very pimpin'

you can remove the harddrive from the xbox and put it into your computer... but first you need to unlock it...

microsoft locks the harddrive so the computer can not see whats on it... sorta like a security feature...

as for cables... it is ide... the stock hard drives range anywhere from 6 - 10 gigs... ( 200gb in mine... )

just a heads up...

short story...

you need a mod chip...
you need to flash mod chip...
you need to install dashboard (slayers evox disc)

the 120gb would fit... but need the mod chip to recognize and allow to boot up on a unlocked harddrive...

I have a 120gig hd, modded in my xbox and it works like a charm. Avalaunch is my dashboard which is beautiful.

My hd in my xbox was a 8 gig maxtor hd, but they are not all maxtors. I believe microsoft also put seagate and one other brand in the xbox's.

X'Ecuter just came out with a new mod chip (3.0) which is supposed to be incredible and easy to install, but I am not to familiar with installed linux on the xbox. Not really sure why you want to though.

Yes, one of the great things about the X-box is you can simply set it up as a Linux PC. It has a decent P3 733, with 128 megs of RAM (I believe, or maybe it's 64), and you can stick a very large hard drive in there. However, it does not have USB 2.0, so many people who were thinking about using it for external USB backups have unfortunately been disappointed by USB 1.1's speed. Too bad.

You can find out more information about the Xbox Linux project at http://www.xbox-linux.org/.
