thinking of starting a maths site
Would you guys think this would be of interest? I have an interest in Mathematics and thought it would be great to start a site with a forum, and maybe some tutorials members and myself could make.
do you guys think it would be worth it, or would just end up a wash up

Personally no I wouldn't use the site, but that's only because I finished maths years ago and don't really require it now in every day life.
However, if you aim it at the right people (people your own age at school) then with the right content it could get going, you can do tutorials and exercises, as well as past exam papers etc plus a forum to ask for extra help.

But IPB isn't free either, you only get it free to trial, if you want to use it for ever then you have to buy it. Although you could get away with just saying that you have never finished the trial...

you could always use phpbb (great forum software other than the release security patches every other day... I'd wait for 2.2)

I personally wouldn't use it, however think it'd be a very good idea. I personally have always liked mathematics and enjoyed working on long and difficult sums when I've nothing to do. Most likely somewhat boring for others, but it keeps your mind sharp.
It'd be a nice venture for you, and I'm sure it'd be worth it in the end if you did it correctly and targeted the correct people, etc. etc.
It's a good idea - You should look into it more, and maybe even pursue it.
In regards to the forum board, I'd have to say it'd be best to go with phpBB. Regardless of whether it's free or paid - I'd much rather go for phpBB anyday over IPB, and would most likely do the same over vBulletin. I, personally, want a forum board which is fast and isn't bloated full of features such as IPB and even vBulletin. If you don't bloat phpBB, it is very fast... but no matter what forum board, no matter how good, if it's bloated it'll always be slow.
