Good and Free don't work, and unlimited bandwidth isn't possible.

Like everyone said, good can't always be reliable. Check out HostCubix.com, one of the better free hosts.

You answered your own question, buddy. You are using a free host that is always down.

Such requests always crack me up: give me Good Free Unlimited host.

ausmanpk2001, maybe you should post your question (and maybe modify your needs a bit) over at http://freewebspace.net/forums

Good luck finding a good reliable host.

BTW, do you actually need (meaning use) unlimited bandwidth?

For all the work you are putting into your new site isn't it worth 10 bucks or so a month to host?

Actual phone call today:

Caller:
Would you mind hosting my site if I let you put your logo on the bottom of the site.

Me:
I said what is your target audience for the site.

Caller:
We run a support forum for Guenu Pigs, hamsters and Gerbils.

Me:
I said what is wrong with your current host.

Caller:
Well they want to start charging me for the hosting seeing they are not getting any business from the banner ad they have on the website.

Me:
So then why would I want to host a site to advertise my company which doesn't bring me any new clients for free? You said so yourself the current host wants you to pay seeing they are not getting any new clients.

Caller:
Silence.

Caller:
Ok I see your point.

Me:
There you go. But if you want to host with me we'll charge you $17.95 a month and I'll show you how you might generate some revenue to offset your cost of hosting but there's no guarantees.. You will owe $17.95 a month wether you generate any revenue or not.

I then explained to him how targeted adsense works and seeing it's strictly a targeted niche website they might work for him.

I dont expect him to move his site over to us but i do expect him to ad adsense to is current website and most likely pay his current host for hosting.

Unlimited even for a Paid host is not possible , not to mention free hosting. How about anyone offering Good Free Unlimited Host + Free Domain + Free ISP? What next? We wait for the next Dot Com crush again....

REmember you can measure revenue in different ways. There might be a value in some form of relationship but mostly there isn't. You need a measurable revenue. Either something which gains your something you won't need to spend money on or you need something that generates revenue.

I have been going through a zillion post here and i still can't figure out where the value is to work for free.

I'll try to avoid giving the old "you should just fork over the money" response (even though that's still true) and try to answer your question. I'm in high school so I know how money can run tight and/or not exist.

First of all I've used NetFirms quite a bit for test sites. (www dot netfirms dot com). However, pretty much any free host already mentioned will do.

For testing sites where I need a domain name, you can get a free www dot yoursite dot uni dot cc domain from www dot uni dot cc which I've used to test a site design before I purchase the domain and go live.

Also, if you are interested in web design or web development of any kind (or perhaps if you just like making a lot of websites) you might want to look into getting a reseller account. I have a reseller account from Seraphex Online (www dot seraphex dot com) which gives me 2 gigs of space and 20 gigs of bandwidth per month which I can divide among however many websites I want.

Sorry for all the "dot's" but WHT won't let me post URLs on this new account yet.

tonyolm very nice phone dialogue illustrating there is no gain without some dollars exchanging hands.

Free is the toy you find in your cereal; even then you had to buy the cereal in the first place.
