What if?

What if my Server expires and I've still to backup things?

Should I pay the money for a day according to the server price?
for eg. $3.46/day for a $104 server

or what?

Its the current situation with me and I'm lost thinking what'd it be now

Ask your host what you can do, if anything.

Do not just send in money for one day and assume that means you get an extra day of service.

I'm not sure if they'll help coz I'm moving to another host and they know it. but yeah, they should help coz I've had a downtime of over 13 days with them due to their support.

What would you do in this situation?

I would have moved over accounts before I let the server expire.

The best you can do right now is ask them if you can have an extra couple of hours or so to back up files.

Good luck.

Bite the bullet and pay for the entire month. This will cover you should there be any unforseen problems while moving accounts and getting things set up on the new server. Also, if there are a large number of accounts, this will give you time to do things in steps. With your 13 days of downtime, the host may allow you to keep it for part of the month, but I'd allow some breathing room.

miakeru, I already paid VoxRox (new Host) well before time (23rd). But it has really been disappointing to say that they havent even setup the server yet and I'm not able to contact their sales team as yet !!!

Tom,

I just have 3 accounts, two are just for random use and the one is of my site (I'm not a host). MySQL db is of around 900mb and I tried to backup via ssh but it seemed to have some problem.
Yeah, due to their support problems, site was down for over 13 days and I'm sure they'd allow me a day or two for it, but I wanna know what should I do incase they dont allow me?

Considering that your old host might or might not let you have your data and you alrady paid for a new server and due to the new hosts carlessness you lost your data..

what would you do?

- Ask for refund from new host and continue with the old server knowing that their service isnt too good?
- Blame your new hosts and tell them to pay for the charges that I'd have to pay to get the backup?
- or what?

The new host can not be responseable it is your fault you waited to long IMHO. I have seen companys take a week to setup servers.

.

I don't think that's fair to say.

Your server is _still_ not in our build queue, as we do not have your signed contract back from you.

You 'placed your order' by sending an email on Friday to one of our sales people and then asking for a status update on our public forums. As I mentioned there (on forums.voxrox.com), and I'll mention here, you do unfortunately have to go through the proper procedures to place an order. By sending an email to a sales rep on Friday, it is not unlikely to not get a response over the weekend as our sales department works M-F 9-5. You mention that you have not been able to contact our sales team as of yet. I'm not sure what you mean. Our sales people have been in contact with you yesterday and today and have told you the exact same thing.

If you can get your paperwork back today (as it has been requested multiple times), we can have your server up and running _today_. As I mentioned, I will personally make sure that you are set up as quickly as possible... but only once the correct procedures have been followed.

If you would like a refund, I will happily issue you one.

I'm sorry that your experience with us has not been ideal, but there's not much that we can do at this point other than await your contract.

Sincerely,

Raj Dutt

I have the same feelings as Raj on this one. We've been waiting for a contract from you, which we have not received. It was emailed to both of your hotmail accounts by your request but our COO, Matt Toback.

Alternatively I said you could fill out the order form on the website and choose the paypal option. Neither of these have been done so we can not process the order.

We've answered all of your emails and requests on our forums and through AIM/ICQ. We would be glad to setup the server for you today but just need the contract back or the order form filled out.

Please let us know what you would like to do.

Oh, well... that's why it's always good to hear the both sides of story

Regarding the old host, it would not have to accept daily payments. They have the right to require a minimum contract period (a month, for example). So, before paying for one day or two, you'd better ask them...

You might have to write this off as a lesson learned and pay for another month at the old host. It sounds like you dropped the ball and waited too late to backup your data. You should have begun this once you noticed an ongoing problem with their service, just in case. I don't expect that the old host will allow you to pay for just a few days of service.

I talked to Matt kelly on 19th July asking about everything from Server Setup to Data Transfer, neither he told me that I've to sign a contract nor is it mentioned anywhere on your website voxRox.com

What does "proper procedure mean" ?? I contacted you via your Contact Form located on VoxRox.com and on VoxRox Forums.
Its NOT mentioned anywhere on the website to contact ONLY support@voxrox.com, so you should'nt expect people to know it already.

Well, they contacted me after about 9hrs I posted this thread. Even after contacting them Matt Kelly said the same thing that you say and I hope I cleared it above (Proper Procedures and Contract).

I've contacted Daryl and he replied saying that he will keep up the server till august 27th but I don see anything working still. I'll contact him now and as the server was down for over 13 days with him I'm sure he'd allow me a day or two to backup my things. I'll get back to you then.

Matt, did you really inform me about contract when I talked to you earlier? Its not that I dont want to sign a contract, but I did'nt know that you wont move further without me signing it and thats what I did'nt want. Only if you've informed me about it earlier, it should've been no problem at all.

I did not see any other option than Credit card when I was trying to fill the form. However, I filled the form now and the message it displayed was "Your order was received but unfortunately, your card was declined. Please contact xxx-xxx-xxx with any questions."

Anyway, dont setup the server yet and I might need to take refund incase I dont get back my data.
