NSI Whois

Hey.

I went to whois a domain the other day, and it seems to give a pretty limited result. For example, if you enter in yahoo.com @ http://www.opensrs.com/cgi-bin/whois.cgi. It lists a bit, but then says

Quote:
====================================================
*
* Welcome to the NSI Registrar Whois Server
*
* Your query limit has been exceeded.
*
Is this because too many queries have come from OpenSRS's IP? I've had the same problem at Stargate too. Can I go in manually, say through telnet, and do a whois? This is becoming quite frustrating.

Thanks,

Hello
They liomit the number of searches per day per IP to prevent harvesting of e-mail addresses from the whois.

The way to do it is use whois.crsnic.net with a recursive flag so that it will refer you to the correct whois server for that registrar.
You will also find that whois.opensrs.net and whois.geektools.com do this for you and display all the results.

Down load a copy of Sam Spade for windows from www.samspade.org and use thier "magic" whois function.

Gordon

Domain not found locally, but Registry points back to local DB.
Local whois DB must be out of date.
What's that mean?

It means that the domain has been deleted from the registry, and it is "soon to drop".

Cheers,
Franky
