The "new" ev1

http://forum.ev1servers.net/showthre...&postid=286896

HS made some pretty big announcements including that they will finally no longer charge sales tax, even a possibility of a refund.

ev1 is also going to start offering private lans. Looks like they found out enough people needed it they finally offered.

Thumbs down

Wow, you mean EV1 did not have to charge sales taxes to non-Texas residents, but they did it anyway? What a surprise.

They said they have had tax lawyers look into it and they all came back saying they needed to charge it, atleast they have finally figured outand will stop charging tax soon. A rebate would be very nice, especially when a single high end server can have 20-30 worth of tax per month...

A rebate isn't viable.

EDIT:

Hmm...

Effective August 1, EV1Servers will no longer collect the 8.25% Texas sales tax on payments from customers who live outside of Texas and have no "nexus" in Texas. A separate email later this month will provide details on what, if anything, will be required on your account to ensure that sales tax is not charged. There is a possibility that our customers may also be able to apply for a refund of tax paid. Additional information will be made available in early September.

Similiar refunds happened in Tennessee. I was able to get a credit from my DSL and Cable service from the last several years.

A rebate would be exceptional, especially since many of us have had servers there for years.

But what's more exceptional is they are finally realizing the mistake they have been making and that has been pointed out to them again and again and again.

Oh man a REBATE of the taxes I paid to EV1 over the years? Holy cow that would be ... very nice of them and a nice little chunk of change.

A quick guesstimate would be about a $1200 rebate if I got all those taxes back from them.

I am wondering where the big "news" is... at TP I am getting the router and other small stuff for free. ev1 is still missing many options (250G drives, raid 5scsi etc.)

When a company has over 10,000+ servers, news like this is actually quite big

Especially when people *might* be able to get thousands of dollars back from taxes!

I dont believe you can collect a tax that is not authorized and then not refund it . I think that is fraud. will most likely have to refund it imho.

If im not mistaken the refund would have to come from the texas taxing authority since it has most certainly already been paid to them

not sure on that one - that is only if it has been paid to them.

I suspect thought that they might refund rs and then let them handle the disbursement - since the tax account is theirs - not the end customers.
