I think I might have to seriously consider it...

actually, i think that once that becomes commonplace, i fear the web-hosting industry will hit a downspiral.

Unlikely. There's still the issues of security, constant power, and server administration. Besides, while 5mbit is pretty good, it doesn't hold a candle to the pipes your average DC is using.

That doesn't make much sense considering it is still far cheaper to buy a reseller package with much better speeds.

Have you ever been to Keller? I wonder why not Dallas, Ft. Worth, or one of the bigger cities?

1. 5 meg up isn't all that much...
2. If 15/2 is 44.95, then 30/5 will be much more, and at that rate you can buy dedis at a real dc for that much

But I agree, I would love to have that at home!

I think the point he's making is that a lot more people will be hosting websites off their home pcs if they have those sort of speeds through their ISP's.

It just depends on if your ISP allows you to run a server or not isn't it.

Sure, but unfortunately, with all the free dns systems out there, tons of people host their own regardless of what their ISP tells them since a static ip isn't needed.

That's where I live, I swear to god..

We're having them come out tommorow and give us an estimate on how long it would take to get us activated. The neighborhood accross the street has it already, but they haven't quite put it all the wiring this way.

Because this is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S, and most of that growth is in the middle-high middle class market, $300-$500K new homes, new homes mean they don't have internet yet, I'm sure that's a demographic they'd like to tap into

Yeah, no one has, and I'm sure anyone outside of the internet / web hosting community ever will. I forgot to mention the other half of the reason why they chose here. The VP of Verizon lives here.. so.. he was probably sitting at home downloading pr0n and was like, d00d if i ar had fiber optic this would have been done 2 hours ago, hay whai dont we put in fiber optic and pwn these nubs and id be the winar. That's actually a direct quote.
