Do you think a second level regional TLD (ex. info.xx where xx is the country code)..

I had a discussion with a friend of mine the other day about international second level domains that can be used a registries.
He mentioned me an example of info.xx (where xx is the country code for example a possible domain can be www.yourname.info.xx) but I don?t know how much this can catch international customers.
I saw what happened with .cc which is TLD of a specific region and was bought by the cc authority.
Centralnic.net work like that with some two letters domains like us.com etc...

It?s a nice topic that?s why I posted also the poll to see what all of you think about

Thanks

What do you think about this : ....

I originally posted this to web domain names forum but I saw that it had low traffic compared with reseller forum and after all resellers and web hosting providers know better about this issue.

So the question is : Do you think 2nd level regional domain name (ex. info.xx) can be used as registry service (a dom.name.example www.yourname.info.xx where xx is a country code) and sell internationally ?

The URL of the post is here : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...threadid=29821
I also posted a poll there

I seek a lot and I ask even more so the other days I had a discussion with a registrar representative and he told me that even new TLDs don¢t have the numbers they expected.
Only the .cc has better position in the market because of the time they launched their service when it was nearly the first alternative apart from .com.net.org

I know .cc is a regional TLD and it was bought from Cocos (Keeling) Islands authorities to be exploited in an international level.

I saw also centralnic.com that does this job with many two letters domains.

Thanks

IMHO:

Hardly.

1. Real domainnames are too cheap these days. No need to get one of those unprofessional looking alternatives.

2. There are soo many TLD's these days that you don't need to resort to this kind of domainname.

The only ones that could work are the names which have a special meaning like:

i.am
go.to
come.to

etc. You get the idea.

domain names

I have just started doing this. I am using .nu and making a queensland Austarlia unique domain names.

I registered www.qld.nu (nu I call new) and formed a site called www.registrar.qld.nu wher domain names can be registered. I started it last week and have got one www.mgcomputers.qld.nu but have not really started advetising yet. It has a BIG potential.

Question

You¢re right.

However I was thinking if the new Top Level Domain (for example .info) can be used with international country code (let¢s say xx so that we don¢t mention a specific country) and promoted out of that country.

I agree that using a general domain maybe it will not give any benefits to the people using it but with the new TLD maybe this can make a sense (for example info.xx) What do you think ?

For me it¢s like the co.uk thing (I mentioned the co.uk as an example) where you put the category of your site (for example com.net.org and then your country code)

Also at same regional registration they are restrictions for people outside that country.

Anyway these were just my ideas

If you like this topic take 1-2 seconds and vote at this poll : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...threadid=29821

Question

Frecol

I?m happy to find someone he does already this job.

I posted the same request to resellers forum if you want to check this out : http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...threadid=29823

Do you think if you didn?t offer the small hosting pack you would have the same % of success ?
I mean do you think your domain name can sell on its own and not supported by the webhosting solution ?

Do you have traffic, interest and finally sales to your system ?
When do you say it has BIG potential do you have facts to support this stand ?

If any WHT member like this topic take 1-2 seconds and vote at the poll right here

Thanks

Hi yes I am sure it will. I have got a lot of prospects at present . It has only been running for 2 weeks. I have 2 agents in Qld Australia who are going to market from thier own sites. I sell 2 years registration for $AUD 80 with no hosting and I take care of the DNS works well have done 3 trial sites on different servers and it all works well.

I intend doing the same thing for aother Australian States.

Own Name Register

I believe that you only need to get a suitable URL and adn go for it. There are a few good ones . www.nic.st (SiTe) which is good there are still a few 2 letter URL's available. Also .bz (Bizness) and who about .at . There are a lot of possilities out there.

A friend of mine has also done this www.llc.nu (Limited Liablility Company). So there are endless possibilities for any enterpenuer. It is not too difficult to set up either.

Hello
The .uk registry works like this.
There are only second level ones like .co.uk and .org.uk

The ballot is underway for .me.uk which will operate like .name
There are also proposals for .scot.uk

Using the second level ones means there is never any real shortage.

We own a few that we use to give our customers
logical free subdomains.

.pro.sh professional
.fam.gs families
.vet.ac veterinary students (a long story....)
plus several others.

Unlike new.net they work correctly with mail systems and normal internet connections.
We sell quite a lot of uk.com and us.com domains from Centralnic.
They are also backed by very sound root DNS systems.

The only problem is you can't easily get an SSL certificate because you are not the owner of uk.com or whatever the SLD is.
I believe you can get round this by using QuickSSL but not sure.

Gordon

Do you know what program/script they use? I'm interested in it

Regarding the yourname.llc.nu, I saw that New.net offers yourname.llc. I think it's much better that what your friend offers.

Yes I think it's better too because it works as soon as the DNS is activated. The other one IS NOT VISIBLE in a lot of places and you have to adjust your browser too as well evry ISP has to put script in to make it work.

This uses .php
