Should I list my name as domain owner?

I have most of my domain names registered at Dotster but until recently also had some other domains with other registrars.

I transferred the remaining domains over to Dotster . When I did, Dotster asked for their ownership information--and required it as it was listed with the other registrars. It was at this point that I noticed my name was not listed under the registrant owner information. No name was listed at all. Only my mailing addresses was. And that's how these domains are now set up at Dotster.

Now I wonder, though it's not likely, what if somebody attempts to steal one of these domain names? With my name not listed as owner in Dotster's database, would it be harder for me to prove rightful ownership? My name, address and e-mail are all listed under Admin/Tech/Billing, but those could be always changed by the 'owner' anyway.

I don't mind paying the $25 per domain to Dotster edit the ownership information to add my name--but only if it would be advantageous do so. I just wonder if it is or not.

TIA

never ran into that problem but since it has your address that should be all the info they need if you can prove you live there

So, if you aren't listed as registrant, who is?

Just the email address, huh... does that address at least contain your name? Otherwise, at least, you better not loose that mail account, somehow...

Well, I never heard of problems with this either, and there's many people not revealing their name in the whois. But I think this is in violation of ICANN regulations, somehow,...

Therefore, well, if you have a really great domain or otherwise a risk that someone might want to take it away from you (i.e. similar or identical to some company name etc.) then if they try claim the domain in court, your not giving correct registrant information might be taken as an indice for "cyber squatting" or whatever...

Also if you transfer the domain from one registar to another and something goes wrong, you might have more trouble in getting back control than if you had given correct registrant contact info.

That's just my idea... Myself I always put my full private name/address in domain name registrations as long as I don't use them. When a domain is in use it first depends if you want to reveal your identity to visitors of the site. If not, well, don't put your name there...

Now if it's worth the effort to rectify registrant information, no idea...

Sorry, I didn't read your post right to the end...

Since your name is there as admin contact... I thought that Admin-C was the registrant, actually,...

Exclamation 25$ for domain edit??? / My solution

I had that problem myself. After a VERY long search I discovered dotdealers.com, which I use now.

They are one of the few registrars that do NOT require you to that STUPID procedure to MUST-HAVE "accurate" WhoIs Infos...
They send an email to the contact email stated in whois and after a verification mail the domain is beeing transferred.

They have a great domain management system and ... here it comes ... only 9$ per domain!

No, I do NOT work for them...
It is one of the (few) companies that really exited me.

This is the cheapest .biz and .info registar I've seen so far.

But it's, once again, a "anonymous" company, no phone, no snail mail address, no nothing. A fly by night operation.........?????????

Namecheap (www.namecheap.com) does .biz and .info registrations for $8.88/yr (I think .biz and .info they do require a minimum two year registration for though)

domain issues

If it is a good domain, i would try to get the domain Registrant information switched. I have gone through the hastle of a domain dispute and tell u frankly its not worth it.

U can transfer to GKG or *****, where domain purchasing is only $9.99 or less, and you keep all your domains under one name, and you can easily change registrant information.

I use to use dotster but when u have so many domains, its just better to have one service for all of them, and for $9.99 or $6.99, a couple dollars here and there add up. Saves a lot!
