In jan,04 I signed up for an account with webcomindia.net (don't want a referrer). 4 months later, I moved on..
That hosting service seems like a joke compared to the offers here.
20MB(yes, 20MB), unlimited bandwidth(in a later email I was told its 10GB/month) and the regular features of cpanel hosting..
for 15 $ a year.
I also registered a domain through them. Over the next 4 months, I had only 1 problem. But the only problem a big one.
Uptime. In its features page, webcomindia states 99.9 % uptime guaranteed.
But take a closer look at the terms and you will see that if the uptime guarantee isn't met, there is no refund or any compensation. So what are they guaranteeing against?
In my 4 months with them, my website was unavailable for about 40 hours. Caused many headaches. I wish I had known about siteuptime.com at that time but oh well..
I moved my hosting service to another provider in april end.
Now came the problem of refunds. In the TOS, its stated no refunds at all under any circumstances. 15 bucks isnt' that big a amount(I probably spent twice that amount on the phone to ask what happened to their servers) but I was irked at their TOS. I asked for a refund of half the amount I paid. They offer a 99.9 % guarantee but no compensation if they don't meet it. I told them that if I dragged them to court, their TOS wouldn't stand a chance. After 2 months they did finally return half the amount.
3 years back I had signed up with
http://net4domains.com I then had a 2MB linux account for 1 year(15 $). My website used to load very slowly. After more than 2 years I went back to check if they still offered measly hosting accounts and they still do. The rates and space offered HASN'T CHANGED!
http://net4domains.com/perl/info/inf...rm=hstusrlinux
They are offering 2mb hosting accounts for 15 bucks. 5mb for 41 $, 10mb for 61 $ and 15mb for 90 $.
Just looking at the same rates even today makes me chuckle.
