why in italy no limit for Bandwidth?
Dear ALL
i was taking a look at many different plans for resellers or hosting in Italy. No company is mentioning bandwidth usage limit?
How can it be possible?
I have contacted 2 of them ( I am italian) and they said..."bandwidth limit? for what? we have limit on harddisk space..not bandwidth"
Anyone more expert knows anything about this?
regards

It doesn't take an expert to tell you that bandwidth can not be 'unlimited'. Whether you're in Milan, Massachusets, or Mozambique, it really doesn't matter.

Stay away from the host, "unlimited" bandwidth offers are definetly a sign of weak hosting companies.

i understood we need to stay away, but the funny thing is that in italy no internet hosting company mention BANDWIDTH usage.
Noone is aware of that.
What they always tell you is how much space you can use on their servers
believe it or not!!!

Actually I am not surprised. Over here in Singapore, the major internet web hosters do not charge for bandwidth too because the upstream provider doesn't do that. But what happens is that each pipe to each machine is metered like 1mbps or something to that nature. So they could use as much as that 1mbps connection would provide.

Maybe if you provide some hosting companys sites that do not state bandwith limitations in Italy it'd be more believeable . I just did a search through google and I didn't find one without bandwith limitations.

I believe it also depends on how developed the hosting market is and how knowledgable the hosting customers are in the given country. I know at least two other European countries where no host will mention transfer/bandwidth, simply because they know that most of their potential customers wouldn't have a clue what that means. Hosts simply assume that no customer will use so much transfer that would cause problems. 95% of customers don't use even a fifth of their bw allocation (not that they know they have an allocation), so it's not a huge problem when the remaining 5% uses double or triple. But I think it'll change slowly as customers become more knowledgeable.

But that would imply that dedicated server clients have bandwidth restrictions, while others don't?!

same concept as a US company that would say something to that effect as you can see each box DOES have bandwidth limits.

Not actually, in Singapore, at least the datacentre I was in, they even categorised bandwidth according to International, Local and Singapore
One, no limit on Singapore One, but International bandwidth really cost a BOMB. But one thing good is at least it is dedicated and u get what you paid for. Datacentre that dun specify usually have a cap for eg I have seen in Singapore 5 racks sharing 2 mbps etc.

Yes in Italy they are still behind as far as that sort of market is concerned.
I have an .it domain with aruba and I can tell you all that they are prob big but only because they're cheap.
They don't mention max bandwidth and provide cheap unlimited space packages.
Support is known to be awful although in around 3 years I never had big problems.
In the US and in the UK hosts prob didn't mention BW limits in the past, but customers have become aware of the implications.
Italians are ahead and good in many things, but not in this case.
Ciao!

I DO AGREE 100%
...this situation won't last very long in italy also.
They will get aware of what is going on.
