I have a sprint sanyo scp-8100 and have been wondering about setting up the 3g stuff on it. I already have the USB cable to connect phone > laptop. The laptop recognizes it as a phone so that is good. However the question is can I still use the service if I get wireless web on the phone plan. I heard they are not longer offering it but I would think it should work. It looks like I can purchse some software and it will work but I don't want to waste the money on the program if it will not work any more.

Nobody has a sprint 3g phone and could provide and input on how well it works?

You need to download a driver for it from the sprint website. I use mine to access email, web on the road. I get about 4 times the speed of 56k on my phone.
