Need dedicated, IRC must be OK.
(Sorry if this is the wrong forum, if you could move it/point me in the right place if it is...)
I need to find a dedicated provider that is willing to accept IRC related services. I'd like to have 3 servers, P4 cpus, intel or 3com NICs, 1GB ram each with the ability to upgrade to more later. Alternately we could go with 2 machines if one had 2 or more GB of ram to start. I will also need about 64~96 IPs per machine. You must be able to place some filter rules on an upstream router - block out common UDP DDoS flood attack (bandwidth saturation) at the upstream side, same as a nullroute as far as data goes but happier as regular traffic is still alive. Nullrouting attacked IPs for periods of time is OK, unplugging the server or nullrouting the primary IP or the whole range is NOT ok. I'm open to most bandwidth carriers as long as your datacenter is reponsive - I hate places that make you wait hours for a response. Being able to keep an eye on the network for DoS activity would also be rather important.
I'd like to be around or under $500/month. Give me a shout.

I did some IRC/shell hosting a while back and used FDC for a portion of time for hosting them. The datacenter is very generous with allocating IP addresses and you'd be surprised how well they respond to and handle DDoS attacks (all but inevitable with shell hosting). I remember one day they were hit with a 700mbps attack, contacted Cogent and had it resolved within a couple hours. There a lot of negative reviews though out there about FDC, and at times they are unresponsive to requests by e-mail, but for IRC/shell hosting I'd reccomend them

I have some machines at FDC and have both good and bad thoughts about them. At times they are great, at times they are not. Generally they don't seem to take care of their end of the network and have entire datacenter outages a few times a day, which can start to become annoying. At othertimes they're great for weeks. Their DDoS response is definately impressive tho. However, I'd like to find some other locations to put some machines.

I agree, go with FDC. One thing there good for is a LOT of free ips. Their network is shaky at times, usually drops everyday.
Staminus might also be a good choice since they auto-null ips, it'll cost you for the IPs but you have a nice budget for it.

He said he already has some servers at FDC, and wants to get more elsewhere.

HE does -no- filtering at all. This is a policy of theirs and why I no-longer use them. I'm not sure if they were ******** me or what, but it wasn't pretty.

You know, for all the times when FDC really lets me down, there are times like right now where they make me pretty happy. Allowing me to set new rules on an upstream router to filter out a 250Mbps DDoS attack.
- that said diversity is good and I'm still looking for other options - thanks for those providers already talking with me about details.

Atrivo doesn't even have a real site online.
