Question

Joker.com renewal

I did a quick renewal of my domain at Joker (which has been there for 3-4 years) because it expired about three days ago. I never got an notice sent either, so the domain went down erruptly.

Problem: their whois database shows my domain with updated info (new expiration, my DNS), BUT when I try to access my domain it still down and nothing works.

Also, I didn't get a reciept or anything from these people. Asking them for help is futile--eh!

Has anybody experienced this problem? How long those it take to update their servers? I just did earlier today, and maybe all I have to do is wait a few hours more. But then, I'm hearing horror stories about Joker.com (after I renewed when I looked around), and I'm not getting email back from them (such as my receipt or that such and such has been done).

Any help would be appreciated.

Not if it expired 3 days ago. Domains don't get released that quick.

The whois has my name and contact info, so it's still mine. I also can go into my account and my domain is there.

It's still down.

I looked carefully at their FAQ and they have: "...you wait some time, the process may take up to 5 working days. When the domain is renewed the old settings of nameserver are restored."

Five days??? Takes THAT long? I fear my site will be down longer than THAT.

They also say I can re-enter my dns--tried that and didn't work.

Everything has been updated--it's as if Joker is just not recognizing it.

Where did you get the domain from?

Also, looking to sell the name?

They sometimes change the dns for expired domains. You might want to check that out.......

I have not seen any registrars that will change the DNS or allow you to manage a name once it is expired.

Joker sometimes changes the dns for expired domains to notrenewed.joker.com or something similar. I've seen it sometimes myself.

They might change it to point to a parking page they earn money on(enom does this) but I would not think they would allow a client to manage an expired name

Joker is the pits of a company to deal with.

They can and do remove dns as soon as the domain expires, I have also see the the whois showing the correct dns entries but not working.

1)Go into your account and reset the nameservers for the domain so that this will take effect from the next zone upload.

2) If you paid for the renewal you should have got a confirmation email from them, make sure the contact information is correct, was it indeed an "emergency renewal" as they call it

3) Support in my experience is a total waste of time

4) Once you get your domain up and running wait the 60 days and get it the hell out of there.

I never got ANY email confirmations. My "owner" and "billing" are two different email addresses, but the owner one is a forward and should got to my billing address. I never got one single email confirmation from these people. I'm only going by the whois.

Once again, I changed the DNS, and even added two other DNSs from hosts that are not mine, just to see if it would catch. Well, it's in the whois, but I'm still crossing my fingers.

I got a support email reply...a template one that tells me to go to the FAQ. That doesn't help.

I wish I could get out of there ASAP, but waiting 60 days is a nightmare. Sure, nice, when you have a competent registar.

And then I heard transferring from Joker to some other place is another hassel.

Claires,

Firstly if you paid by credit card, can you contact to your card issuer and confirm if payment has been made?

If you done an "emergency" renewal ( sic) then Joker process this differently and an email goes to whoever actually made the payment and you can actually toggle off the email response - possible?? I am also assuming that the contact email addresses are NOT linked to the domain that is not working, Joker do not email the owner to confirm renewal it is sent to the email address provided in the renewal process.

Getting out of joker is not terribly difficult, it is as you are probably aware a different process as you first need to open a transfer "time window" the trick here is to ensure you have all contact addresses set correctly and accept that this is a pain in the rear end and most importantly read and reply to all registry generated emails.

BTW I have lots of Joker expereince, I have now transferred out well over 500 domains from the joker system, it is however vastly improved since the Core registrar days.

Well, it wouldn't matter if it's the owner or the billing (I log in as the billing), it would/should go to the same inbox. My billing address (which is the "same" as owner) hasn't recieved anything emails of reciept or even notice of changes made to my account. I never even recieved a "notice" that my domain was about to expire either (which they did in past years).

I checked my card online and it has "pending", which mean it's not posted on my account yet, so maybe that could be it...or Joker is slow...or it takes a while since they are out of the USA. This hasn't happened before, but then, I always paid before the deadline of my expiration, so maybe that's why I never felt the effect.

It's been over 24 hours. Maybe I'm getting heating up over nothing (but still...), and it bothers me that I haven't had a confirmation notice on anything. With receipt I can accept a little because maybe they are still in the process, but when I make changes and they keep saying "email coming to my inbox", I get worried. The inbox works fine.

But you've been helpful. At least I have a sounder mind when I move out of there.
