Frustrated with Windows Control Panels

I hope I am not the only one here, but I feel like I just need to stay with the basic of doing all the additions and everything else on the servers myself. I am so frustrated with the way all of these company's handle resellers. Why cant any of the packages have it when your resellers actually resell your packages? Not you give them so many domains or whatever, but when you say... Ok here are the packages we offer, sell as many of these as you can! That would be so much better in my opinion. Maybe I just don't know how to use the control panels, but I just got done trying to play around with HELM and it has alot of great options but I do not think they have most of the hosting world in mind.

Hey redbrad0,

Try using winpanel.. I am sure you will love it. I guess the Fastservers are the makers of winpanel, but to be true, it is the best control panel available for windows I have ever worked with.

That's why we developed our own control panel. It has everything we need built exactly how we want it. My main problem was i could not find a control panel that would work with the exact combination of software i wanted to use for email, ftp, dns, etc.

That is about where I am thinking we will have to go. Where did you get a component or document's on how to create all the accounts and everything in IIS, Win2003, and third party programs (email, dns, ftp, etc.)

We use the ADSI provider in windows to work with IIS and other parts of the OS, there is a lot of documentation on the web if you search google. Our email and ftp are database driven so we just wrote general ASP scripts to manage the accounts. Our DNS server has a neat API that uses forms posts to control the records which was fairly simple. Most of the other needs such as reseller management, billing, support tickets, etc where all developed as needed. We always find new ways to improve and are on our 3rd revision at this point. It definelty beats having to deal with some 3rd party solution that is messy and causes problems.

Every control panel has its pros and cons, we have tried

H-Sphere (were already using cpanel, so the unix interface and billing were useless)

Hosting Controller (too buggy),

Command Matrix (nice interface, but development halted??),

Plesk (our customers dident like it) and now finally

HELM (too confusing, took us 1 week to get it to work, and it again broke, our server provider suggested a reinstall of the OS.. need i say more? ).

Sorry to say, but none of them were as good as they looked on paper. There is always something missing..

So, If you need some thing that is not there in a CP, you will have to develop one your self!
