You will find a lot of people who register .co.uk domains for about £5 a year, or thereabouts. Try UK2.net - I think they do them.

UK2.NET are not a reliable company.
Doa search in the uk.net newsgroup and you will find out that there are lots of hidden charges including a hefty transfer out charge.
I use http://www.freeparking.co.uk/
They charge 10 pounds and allow you to manage lots of domains with differnt owners on the one admin account.

I recommend against uk2.net, I think simplynames.co.uk is the best, I've got a few domains with them. Check 'em out.

Sorry about that, I'd forgot about the issues with being able to transfer your domain name away from them. Aparently it's even worse for RAQ owners who buy from them (RAQs that is not domains - but it is related).

From the Nominet website:
Anyone with an interest in the Internet may become a member of Nominet by paying a one-off joining fee of £400 (plus VAT) and an annual subscription charge of £100 (plus VAT).
The membership year runs from 1 August to 31 July, and members joining after 1 February are entitled to a 50% reduction in the annual subscription charge element, for the year of joining only, to £50 (plus VAT).
Existing members are invoiced at the beginning of each membership year for their annual subscription at the renewal rate of £100 plus VAT.

Hi,
Try http://www.ukreg.com
They are cheap, and they let you use edit the MX record etc.
I use them for two domains and they are brilliant.
UK registration has become very cheap now; you might be able to find someone to register the name for free, i.e. you only pay the nominet fee. So search again for "free domain name registration" on excite or yahoo (uk versions of course).
Hope it helps.
