I'd don't even think you'll see a huge amount leave to be honest. Sure many of the geeks and hardcores will go for 1gb, but does anyone remember when that thing called the Xbox was released... it was to destroy the PS2 and we all know what happened there.

People hate change, I'm sure you'll see hotmail remain the free email big boy.

I love gmail, but I know even if I had 250mb of storage I would probley not use it all anyway. I tend to try and keep my inbox organized and clean anyway.

Yes thats true...I rarely use my 2meg account let alone 250! Msn will be the email DADDY of them all no matter what! As stated earlier, people dont like change- neither do I..

Gmail is mutch better than Hotmail. This move will not help them.

I also think MSN will stay the big name in free email account. only because it has been the biggest one for so long. Most people won't change just because they will find it to much of a hassle and everyone knows what their email is already. MSN will stay the big name in email accounts.

you don't have to use hotmail to use msn...

and that's the common mistake.. Why so many persons use hotmail, that's due to msn, and what is the most spammed domain after microsoft? guess... lol

    gmail

Once gmail brings in pop3 access (even if it is for a fee) then it will really give yahoo and hotmail run for their money !

    consider yahoo's offering

    1) no ads ..yes NO ads not even text ads
    2) pop3 access
    3) 2GB mail storage ! (great for archiving, even though pop3 access is present)

all for US$19.95 per year !

    let gmail beat that !

I personally dumped Hotmail long time ago. Used to get tons of spam, important emails wouldn't go though, etc... Happy with Yahoo right now.

Hotmail also changed their policy and it sucks:

"Please note that you must sign into your Hotmail account at least once every 30 days. If you do not, your account will become inactive. Once an account becomes inactive, all messages, folders and contacts are deleted, but the account name is still reserved. After being inactive for 90 days the account itself will be deleted."

Earlier they used to keep inactive accounts for around 1 year before completely removing them.

gmail will beat out hotmail. simple as that. why? hotmail is run by money thirsty people. it is overrun with spam and ads.... i like how gmail doesnt add a tagling to the end of its messages. hotmail is also slow, and a lot of the times, un reachable (you know, the message "server is busy" pops up and you cant do anything). i also agrea with iThink about the policy change.

I think yahoo will stay up there do to the fact that they use the login for a network of sites. Me personally will just use my own domains and servers for email.

I use yahoo plus 5.95 a month I have access to all of the mail features the ability to extend my plus features to 10 sub users (my family) and 2GB of mail storage. No ads

I have a Gmail account as well , all I can say about it is it sends and recives mail other than that its kind of weak , but where its beta , we will have to see what it becomes.
