Should WHT be "upgraded" to vB3?

SoftWarezRevue recently posted that some things are on hold until WHT is "upgraded" to vB3.

Should this forum be upgraded?

All in good time. I'm sure Prohacker will get there soon enough.

I'm sure there are a lot of backend mods installed at WHT. Like limiting posting new threads in certain sub-forums, pm only after 5 posts etc ... and upgrading to vB will need all those things to be reinstalled again.

Going to be a pain in the arse to install all those things again ... Best of luck with it though !

does it matter what the software is so long as it does its job as intended?

or do you need the newest of everything regardless

Well... it will be a pain, but if you work with it behind the scenes with a few active users, just to test things. Then theres no real time limit is there?

I like WHT as is. It's the best and the greatest run community on the net in my opinion. It dosen't really need changing just yet, but it'd be nice. I'd prefer to keep it like this if upgrading to VB3 means loosing the mods.

I agree. The community's already so great. Why the need for a change? When VB3 has only been out 3-4 months maybe less.

I like vB2 over all other forum software. vB3 was a disappointment for me and I don't plan on using it myself. IPB 2.0 is looking nice, never really liked PHPBB2 so I say stick as things are since everything works great.

My question would be what is the advantage in upgrading?

I'm not familiar with the back end workings of VB but it would seem to me to be a mistake to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading.

If it aint broken, don't fix it.

Go blue. Your are totally right, What's the point unless there is a security issue or something. I don't want to sound like a parrot but i think it would be a mistake to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading.

The few forums I use that are running the newer version haven't impressed me much. I feel it's becoming too full of 'gimmicks and gadgets'

Leave it as it is I say.

Blue pretty much summed it up.

vB3 doesn't really have any major benefits.. really, when you look at it, we aren't seven--no need for games, avatars, points systems for prizes..

phpBB2 looks nice, but there's no paid support for it--while ProHacker has plenty of knowledge, there's nothing to fall back on, should 'worse come to worst.' (Did I even say that right?)

And, completely OT: I'm on 1280x1024. The forum is a little off-center within the white, rounded box.
