proftpd dead but subsys locked

Hi,
I need serious help, anything would be appreciated.

I'm running WHM/Cpanel on a linux / RH9 machine
Proftpd has been down for 3 days.

--- When I try restarting it from WHM, I get "proftpd dead but subsys locked"

--- I tried deleting the log file in /var/lock/subsys/proftpd .. but it still didn't fix it.

--- I get this when I try to stop it: Am I not typing it right?
--- root [/etc/init.d]# proftpd stop
- Fatal: <VirtualHost>: missing arguments

--- On WHT a person post a similar issue, and he checked to see if there was a running process. I checked on the machine, and there were none ...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thx WHT.

It looks like your config file may have a syntax error (noted by the "Fatal: <VirtualHost>: missing arguments" snippet) you posted above.

Try running "proftpd -t" which whould syntax check the config file (and show the same error as above).

I assume the VirtualHost block is missing the IP or some other critical argument. You may try commenting the block out (from <VirtualHost> to </VirtualHost>) and see if that fixes it.

Could you post your proftpd.conf file so that we can see what's wrong?
