DNS Propagation and Comcast Cable
I am in SE Georgia, U.S.A. and I have recently moved my site from one web server to another. The dns was updated. Everything is now being served off of the new web server dns. DNSReport.com shows that the new server is answering dns queries.
However, it has been 5 days and my ISP, Comcast Cable, still sends me to my old server. Their tech support was not helpful, except that they told me that there may be something I can do in my Windows XP Home Edition OS to help the situation. They could not tell me how to do it though.
Does anyone know what they were alluding to?
Thanks

Can you do a test for us and post the results:
1. Click on Start and choose Run
2. Type in cmd and then Press Enter
3. At the DOS prompt type in tracert yourdomain.com
4. Copy and paste the results in here.

Results
Tracing route to www.dapperdesk.com [66.98.196.155] over a maximum of 30 hops..
1. * * * Request timed out
2. * * * Request timed out
3. * * * Request timed out
4. * * * Request timed out
and so on and so forth.
However, I can view the site and it is displaying. The IP is the old server IP number, not the new number.

Hello,
This has happened several times to our clients.
Just use the following:
1. Start > Run "cmd"
2. Command Line opens
3. do "ipconfig" see your IP
4. do "ipconfig /release" then "/renew" you get the same or new IP depending.
5. do "ipconfig /flushdns"
6. Now, do "nslookup yourdomain.com"
You can skip some steps but I preffer to make them all.
Good Luck

If Francisco's method does not work to refresh the dns information, you can change the hosts file located in the C:/WIndows/system32/drivers/etc. Open that up and add the line;
"ip of new server here domainhere"
That will make it load to the new server as it's like a local dns cache.

Thanks guys. That worked like a charm! I am going to add this to my customer faq database for their use. Since this has happened to me, I understand how frustrating it has been!!

One question about the above fixes. Will it work on all versions of Windows or just XP?
