I've seen RegisterFly.com mentioned. Their stated services and prices look attractive. Does anyone out there have actual experience with them? Favorable or unfavorable impressions of their services and behavior?
Very good, I have 2000+ names with them and overall very good. They are a very large registrar (3/4 million names) . They just started phone support so getting hold of someone is even easier now should you need support.
Their prices are ok and their control panel is functional. I also do use their services for about 50 domains however I have read some horror stories from domain forums and such about their customer service lacking big time therefore I most of the time approach them with caution.

So far my experience has been pretty good. I transferred a few domains over to them and they completed the transaction (i.e. the transfer was reflected on internic) within hours, much quicker than many other registrars.
However, problems usually occur on the way out (as I discovered recently with Powerpipe), so I don't know how good they would be if I wanted to transfer domains out of Registerfly!
I have a bunch of names with them and I've only had one problem. They reported a name as available when it wasn't -- even though the registration failed they charged my credit card. It took a couple of emails to support to get it straightened out.
Wait a minute Disgruntled, all registrars will have their quirks and complaints. I would not discount Godaddy. Personally I haven't had any problems whatsoever with them now for 2 years. So keep them in mind. Just my 2c.

how about 1and1 vs RegisterFly.com ?i know 1nad1 is cheaper, but not sure about their service
Originally posted by dmaven Gee the consensus disagrees.
Your remarks about needing to speak hindu is also downright disrespectful. I think the mods need to intervene here
The consensus on this thread appears to disagree, but when you learn to do a search on this forum and see the dozens of threads about how RegisterFly sucks, you'll see that they have a larger than average dissatisfied customer base.
Needing to speak Hindu is not disrespectful. It's a fact. Up until recently, the only available support option was either a trouble ticket or 24/7 Live Chat -- all outsourced to India. And at least 80% of the time their support staff showed, on a good day, a command of the English language equal to that of your average second grader. Again, search the forum and find the actual examples.
Regarding UnifiedNames, the company that owns RegisterFly, the BBB of New Jersey has even worse to say: "Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unanswered complaint(s). The Bureau has requested basic information from this company. The Bureau has not received a response. Without this information, the Bureau may not have current information concerning such things as the company's management or its nature of business.
I'm starting to wish I'd checked this board one more time before I signed up with RegisterFly.
After some initial bugs, my webpage was up and running. Now it's back to Cannot Find Server. Live Chat says they're rebboting Apache, and I should check again in an hour. So far it's only half an hour. Maybe in another half hour it will work.
Any opinion on how many or how long a server malfunction I should consider "normal" enough before i shop for a new hosting service?
Disgruntled, are you talking of RegisterFly the hosting company or RegisterFly the domain registrar? They sell both services under the same umbrella, but your problem seems to be a hosting issue and not a domain issue.
I bought both registry and hosting service together from RegisterFly.
This particular thing would be about the hosting side. Maybe I'm posting it on the wrong main forum.
My webpage was functional again in about two hours from the time I first contacted them about the outage.
I have some names with RFly.
But also with GoDaddy and Namecheap.
No probs with Namecheap (but I never contacted them) nor with GoDaddy, (but I only wrote to them once for a minor issue, with no reply).
Most of my domains are with RFly and that was because of all their extras for only a little extra money.
Everything is well, live chat is usually responsive in a few minutes, and I had no problems with their English although quite obviously not being English their primary language.
Only one problem, quite a big one actually: they billed me mistakenly for around 140.00 $.
But they almost immediately acknowledged the mistake and promised a full reund.
I am waiting for that, it's been 3 weeks but they did say I had to wait for several days.
I'll give another couple and contact them asking what they mean by "several".
I'm not using their side services anymore, because fully paid for ones are obviously better, but I still consider them the best option. Only narrowly prevailing though.
I hope this helps to give you all an idea.
They ROUTINELY lost my DNS settings without warning. I would fix the domain and tell them my settings had been lost. They would say: it works now. Yes, it works, but only because I fixed it.
Also, renewed many domains (pre-paid with PayPal). They showed up as renewed on their site. But they never renewed them ... what a mess! Keep in mind that regsiterfly, whofly, and enom are OFTEN not in sync.
You waste so much time!!! Avoid them like the plague!
I used to use RegisterFly, still have 3 or so domains out of several hundred I have registered. I used to bounce back and forth between Namecheap and RegisterFly, depending on who had the deal of the week. I never delt with RegisterFly support, as I never had any problems, but the site was 7/10 times slow then I would like to deal with, and somethings could be arranged better. Namecheap I never had one problem.
The only reason I left Namecheap was to move to a resellers account I obtained from from Enom through Modernbill. After I outgrew that I moved directly under Enom as an ETP and can't be happier.
My webpage hosted by Registerfly has been down since Aug 20, except for a period from afternoon of Aug 25 to morning of Aug 26 when it worked.
The most recent of many responses of live chat support that it will be resolved in "24hr" was 28 hours ago.
Why dont you try the phone support / e-mail support to get the updates??
Best of luck

Email support stopped answering my questions about what is going on. The last email I sent to them I mentioned that I was starting to receive incoming virus email to the address listed in my whois, which had been spam-free. It was W32.Netsky.P@mm coming from DNS registered to iqara.net in India, starting Aug 27. Since my email address was a Yahoo account, Yahoo does identify the virus and prevents it from downloading. Anyway, I asked them if a W32.Netsky.P@mm infection on their server was the source of the problem, but they didn't answer. One of the forged email addresses was "supportfly", which may be a coincidence, but seems consistent with the virus having harvested addresses from Registerfly.
At this point I am awaiting transfer of my domain to Godaddy, where I have bought hosting service. I just got email from Enom notifying me that a domain transfer was requested. It seems like their system is to notify the registrant and then wait to see if they're told to cancel the transfer. It would be nice if they would provide a procedure for active approval, which could move things faster.
I have canceled my Registerfly hosting, and I did get email confirming that and stating they will refund the advance payment I made for the quarter that would have been due to start Sep 16.
Just wanted to let others know about the awesome service I got from registerfly:
started using them cause the interface to get domain names was great ...
one day I made a mistake while adding funds to my account ...
I chose their default 250.00. I meant to choose $50
"oh no" I said, and immediately tried to call them to cancel the order.
I called and was constantly told, that the only person that could cancel my order was on vacation, but a note would be left for them. (three business days of this)
three days later, no refund, no cancelled order, no one to talk wiht that has any authoirty. I get told billing department doens't have a phone
I call back and get told to open a trouble ticket, as that is the only way to resolve problem. (they should have told me that to start with). they are confused on why I was told it would taken care of.
I open a trouble ticket and two more dsays pass with no reply ...
having bounced my debit card (NEVER USE A DEBIT CARD ON THE INTERNET), I called the bank to dispute charges. that got thewir attention real quick.
as soon as I do this, registerfly 'suspends' my account and now I can't login to trouble ticket system. they threaten to sell all my domains to cover chargeback.
I eventually talk with 'John", who explains their pricing model and how they take stuff seriously, and doesn't know why someone would tell me that they could solve a dispute by leaving a note on someones desk ...
I explain my frustration of not having any body to help me with this billing prob for over a week, and why I chargedback, as a last possible resort to not bouncing my account with an overdraft.
John indicates, that I need to pay the chargeback fee of $25.00, to fix all. I agree cause I am worried about my business domains, so i pay $25.
they restore my account ...
me, being the forgiving sort (idiot) doesn't IMMEDIATELY transfer my domains away .. (WHOOOPS).
a month goes by and I continue to use up my credit on rfly's system to get a few new domain names. no probs.
so quick, so easy, so cheap ... registerfly rocks ....
and then WITHOUT WARNING, on a friday night ...
ALL of my DOMAIN records get overwritten with their data, as they had "RE-SUSPENDED" my account because of a previous chargeback, that had already taken place, been paid for , and resolved. (can you say clerical error)
my sites are effectively down (even though my dedicated server was up). I call saturday during their posted support hours, and of course, their is no support on saturday.
I call Monday morning (sites have been down for 72 hours at this point) and get hung up on 5 seperate times. (I was not being angry, rude, or unpleasant). Finally I get through, and am told that the only person (the boss, John) that can fix this isn't in the office, and they have no idea if he is coming in this week ...
I explain that the chargeback has already been resolved, and that I have already have had rfly threaten to sell my accounts, paid the 25. chargeback fee, and resolved it. they maintain, my bank issued a second chargeback. I call the bank and they have no record of a second chargeback
Now its tuesday, and I just got off the phone with one of their risk managment people, who said to unlock my account, I need to pay the chargeback fee (AGAIN).
Of course I am going to, just so I can unlock my accounts and transfer to a REPUTABLE company.
but if you register domain names with registerfly, watch out.
even though they make signing up for domains easy and cheap, their service sucks, they have no billing support via phone, are slow to inconsistent to respond, and find it acceptable to disable accounts while allowing no immediate resolution.
they are a horrible company, and are quite lucky I don't live in NJ or I would have paid a little visit to their lackluster company and "filed a complaint" in person.
don't be fooled by their awesome interface. they will totally screw you ...
i gave them every opportunity to do right, and they just scrwed me over.
please consider this when choosing a domain name provider.
also do check out the NJ state BBB which recommends against them, due to the high volume of unanswered complaints against this company.
