For a cheap solution try www.freevps.com
For another cheap solution, but a very complicated setup try http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/ (only use this if you have quite a bit of experience with Linux)
For the overall best solution, but very expensive, try www.virtuozzo.com
Virtuozzo runs a demo/meeting between you and one of their employees, and they will walk you through, explaining how the system works and answering any questions along the way. Very nice.

I wonder whether installation of these products e.g. UML can be done through ssh or do you need access at the terminal to have these done?

You can use VMWare GSX Server remotely, but it's a little bit on the pricey side. One way of using VMWare Workstation on a remote server would be using X via VNC. I'm pretty sure you can't use VMWare Workstation via command line.

I have used Virtuozzo and VMware, I like Virtuozzo better. Sw-soft has a whole line of great products. VMware is good too, dont get me wrong, but I think Virtuozzo has the edge.

i dont think virtuozzo is any better than vmware...
at least, vmware can be bought instantly...
about virtuozzo,i sent email several times to sw-soft about pricing and a demo request, and they never replied... they dont even say how much it costs on their site... if this can be a trustworthy, ok...
i just can't believe it.

Yeah, will it really be free, or will it be possible with a new update to cPanel? As long as I get to use it with no problems then I am happy
