Not a100% legit site : hosting options

Hi,

Im sure this question has been asked 1 million times.. I've done a search but couldnt find the info im looking for..

No I dont want to host child porn, before people start pointing fingers. Just a site that might break a few trademarks and copyrights, and no it isnt a computer warez site.

Where can I host such a site, which hosting companys pretty much dont give a fvck? It is not a possibility for me to host it on my own computer.. I also need to use my own domain name..

Any suggestions are welcome..

Many thanks

If its anywhere near an illegal site, I don't think any host company would host you. Unless you can find one of those so called "Kiddies host" ie a host company run/owned by a 14 yr old and who's willing to take anyone on board just to make an extra buck.

You will have to be a bit more specific about the "break a few trademarks and copyrights" before anyone can help you out here, fraserflav

I dont know about in the USA, but in canada, there are alot of purses, bags, glasses, watches, that are sold, and they are all fake. I mean, think about it, fake rolexes are sold world-wide legally.

There's just 2 catches;

1. the trademark logo has to be slightly different. Just a SLIGHT difference, and it's legal. Otherwise, jail time.

2. You cant say it's the real thing. Otherwise it is Fraud, and jail time again. You also cant sell it for the same cost. I mean you could, but no one would buy it, because they would just go buy the real thing for the real price.

So, slightly change all logos, dont ever advertise it's the real thing, and always sell lower then the real cost, and you shouldnt have any problems at all.

If you stick by those guidelines, then your not breaking any laws. Atleast not any laws in canada.

But would a host take the chance of hosting such a site? even if the logo does look slightly different. Read a story in one of the forum about a guy being sued by Microsoft, yes good ol Gates, because he registered a domain name that sounds like microsoft though spelling is no where near.

/me cancels his mykrhosopht.com registration...

Seriously, though.. G2 has made some nice suggestions. I'd still say look for a non-US hosting company, follow those guidelines suggested by G2, and you should be okay.

LOL...

i believe, if my memory serves me right, it was something like mikerowesoft.com.

but yeah G2's suggestion might just work. And maybe find a host in a country where there aren't such a strict rules or at least one that doesn't practice what they preach

In the U.S., there are actual quantitative specifications which are used to test whether a product infringes on a patent, copyright or trademark. It's something to discuss with a lawyer though, find out what the exact requirements are.

There are knock-offs everywhere but when it comes to the legalities... eh...
