ecommerce problem

Anyone know of an easily editable shopping cart. We're using OsCommerce but the updates are killing us. Customers simply cannot edit the site without our help. Are there any other e-commerce solutions that are more user friendly, at least when it comes to making changes to the site?

Free Ones?

I dont think any other FREE cart is better than OsCommerce!

If you think of spending some money, you might want to try X-Cart, naxtor etc..

What kind of changes are you talking about? Changes to the Category and Product items? Or actually editing the code of the store itself?

If you mean editing the code of the store itself... are you talking about text changes, or layout changes?

Please advise.

Hi cmtusa,

We recently switched from osCommerce to Zen Cart for this exact reason... (Zen Cart is based on osCommerce)

It is MUCH easier for customers to make changes to the look and feel - move things around, etc...

Plus, it has a few of the more important modules built into its base image... (coupons, etc)

This wont help you with every customer - as the ones with zero technology skill will still have zero technology skills - but, the customers with reasonable skills who can do things like use ftp and insert html color codes, etc... will have a much easier time managing this shop...

Hope this helps...

There are quite a few contributions that are available that, when installed, would allow you to make modifications to just about every section of text directly from the Store Administrator.

For instance, there is a contribution called "Define Main Page", which gives you the ability to control the the body of Index.php. It comes with a built-in HTML Editor, so making changes on the fly is as easy as creating a new product.

Its just a matter of taking the time to install these contributions. Once installed, changes will be much easier.

Let me know if I can help.

Is zen cart significantly easier to use? For example, can customers easily edit text of all pages within admin panel?

Zen Cart is significantly easier to use and customize (particularly the look & feel) and placement of all the various boxes (ie New Products, Manufacturers, etc..)

As of right this second, no - you cannot edit all the pages from admin.. However, this is a component to be included in Zen's next release (later this month)

As Hosting & Colo mentioned - you can get this functionality with osC as well - theres not only an "editable Home page in admin" mod, but also and "editable pages in admin" mod - which allows you to edit the home page, shipping and returns, privacy policy, etc - all from admin...

Hope this helps..

That's wonderful . . . so there are separate contributions for all of these pages?

Generally mods vary in difficulty and complexity of installation - some conflict with each other, etc..

However, these particular mods are fairly straight forward - follow the recipe (make sure you back up the original versions of the files you need to change) and you should have no problems...

20-30 min max to install the editable pages mod...

Okay . . . found Define Main Page contribution. Anyone know what the other one (for the additional pages) is called? By the way, thanks to everyone for all your help

Take a look at the "Information Pages Unlimited" contribution. That will handle allow you to create pages on the fly from within the Store Admin.
