Thought location might matter. For instance if I were living in Australia, I would try to find one in AUS.

Those that are listed above would give you full root access to the server. Besides they are pretty much unmanaged and you are expected to do the nitty gitty administrative work which would inevitably involved root access. You will also have Cpanel and WHM access if you opt for the Cpanel control panel.

right so thats sorted,
so with root access i can access the box, how the hell to you make account, delete them, add domains bah bah bah, pop mail, and stuff ftp also
i mean how do you make like account on these servers,
do they give you a free kinda management tool to do this? coz it seems cpanel u just have to pay extra for or is cpanel the only way to manage **** like that...
i also find it quite mad that if the os dies u have to pay them to re-install it!

you can have several options to choose from from servermatrix.com for your budget.
last i heard their servers come with cpanel/whm for free but it could just be a promo. check them out to be sure.
you use cpanel/whm to manage the server including your concerns about adding domains, email accounts, etc.
the servers are also "managed" with their silver managed plan which comes for free.

What I and most other WHT'ers will tell people is that if you don't know the basics (I.e. Apache, FTPd, Exim, Mailman, Sendmail, basic shell commands, etc. etc.) you should *really*, in your best interest, learn those first, as you're not going to have *any* help whatsoever.
It's not as easy as log into WHM, create a new account, and boom you have a new customer. It's as easy as, whoops Apache failed, "I wonder why, let me go and fix it". And if you can't do that last step, you're pretty much stuck, as people on WHT won't be able/willing to respond to every one of your questions, which will eventually amount to the hundreds.
I urge you to take my advice and learn a bit about Linux system administration, and then go forward with your plans. It may seem like a pain in the short term, but in the long run, I guarantee you that it will save your ***.
You can probably guess I recommend Linux, and Red Hat Enterprise 3.0 to be exact.
I hope I've given you some help, and some good ideas.

Well, actually it is not true to say that linux is best for web servers. How good the OS is would depend on how good the one managing and administering the machine is.
Stick to the OS you know intimately well and that it can handle what you need to do and you do fine. If not, it is just like working in the dark.

I believe that's exactly his problem, he's not proficient in either OS.
Annihilation, no offense intended whatsoever, I was just trying to help.

lol, i've used Windows all my life, i have also used Windows as a small network Server for my home network, with Apache, mySQL, PHP and all the addons.
im was just asking for an opinion on what you thought was the best operating to use on a dedicated server, Linux seems to be the best and said most stable.
but thats were ur "correctness" comes into action sniper, installing Apache on a Windows machine was easy, not an issue, same with mySQL etc, but i cant imagine what it will be like on Linux, would you say it was harder? because i'd imagine so.
alot of the packages i have seen, pre-install everything for you, so i dont see where your coming from on the "they wont do anything for you" your on your own sorta lines, i mean i understand you saying it because yea it would be a mission if nothing was installed, but most i see give you alot pre-installed

I have not checked out Plesk but since they spring from the Linux platform, they may have PHP, MySQL and the lots of things you require installed for you.
I am using Ensim for Windows and I have PHP and MySQL installed and configured for me but that was not something I use.
